Can you name a genuinely aweful yes album? or are you of the same opinion as me:

Yes are never bad but the styles used on some albums are not to eveyone's taste.

e.g. 90125 gets bad reveiws because of the pop connection (but you gotta admit its real good pop)

I can feel no sense of measure

No, I can't, all albums are good, but I think Big Generator is the least good and Tales from Topografic oceans the best. Cheers:)

If you count Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford, Howe among Yes albums, this one is the bad one.

90125 is a good album in a genre I have no interest in. It is not a prog album.

Union is just genuinely awful, though.

I'd say a good portion of their albums are bad.  But I like to pretend those never happened.

Big yes fan here, but indeed Onion (as Rick used to call it..) is terrible!

the rest is all great!

"Union" is of very poor quality. Trevor Rabin's songs (especially his lyrics) are not suitable to the Yes ethos. While his music may qualify as a type of Yes prog, what he sings about should have disqualified him from membership.

The Rabin era Yes was a disappointment and a noticeabe drop in musical quality.

Indeed. I consider myself to be quite a big Yes fan but to my mind only the Yes Album to Tormato period are worth any real consideration (and I should point out I don't particularly like parts of these either). Since then we've had cheesey pop and even cheesier attempts to recreate an already somewhat cheesey brand of prog... Every Yes album is a patchy affair, but does that detract from the greatness of songs like CTTE, TGOD, or Awaken? It certainly doesn't in my opinion...

I prefer Big Generator from ABWH, which I dont like much at all. Luckily it doesnt carry the Yes badge! As for Onion I prefer the Rabin songs as a whole...in general...but then again I like the Rabin period.

I must listen to more Yes

I hated the "mincing tart" Anderson's voice (sorry that is really not fair but you know how it is when you are trying to fight something ) for years then I heard Topographic & was blown away

Confusion will be my epitaph

Hi Vicky, a big welcome to the forum. Any "friend of Jim's...", well maybe not but welcome anyway!LOL

Re Yes, the only album I've never been able to appreciate at all is Tormato. The sleeve doesn't help, but I just can't find anything on that album which holds my attention. I wouldn't call it awful, just dull.

i don't think yes has held up past 1980 as well as some other acts for sure. Although their 70s material is outstanding, I would say that rush and floyd have been more quality consistent as the years have gone by. (ABWH is crap!)
