So with the Led Zeppelin reunion tour now on, here's the big question :
Who was the American singer that Page and Jones were considering as a replacement ?
And how long will it take to find out ?
I would bet on Sammy Hagar as being the only "credible" one in the whole country. Not because he matches Plant's stature, but in the sense that he has enough talent vocally speaking to get the job done. Van Hagar used to sing a few Zep tunes, and I remember some music news which indicated that Sammy and Page or Plant knew each other  on more than just a professional basis.
Whaddy'all think ???

Lou Gramm ?

Wait what? Zeppelin reunion but no Plant? Screw that. Especially if he's replaced by Gramm or Hagar. YUCK.   Might as well go see Paul Rodgers and Queen. No I don't even want to do that!

Sammy's great and would do a fine job, but I don't think his tone would work with Zep material.. if I were Page and Jones I'd go with some unknown kid

It seems that Plant changed his mind about doing a Led Zep tour because Page & Jones were considering an American singer to take Plant's place. So Plant now says, I'm on.
But who is that mystery American Singer that Jimmy & John Paul would have taken on board ?

I might have thought that they would consider Lenny Wolf from the German metal band Kingdom Come.  Their early albums sounded remarkably like Led Zeppelin and he sound quite a lot like Robert Plant.  Interestingly, he claimed that he wasn't familiar with Led Zeppelin when questioned about the similarities.  I always found that part hard to believe and he might have said it tongue in cheek.

My guess for the American singer would be Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes.  Jimmy Page toured with them a few years back and they did quite a few Led Zeppelin songs on that tour.

Could always go back to the singer Page originally pencilled in as lead singer before Plant was recommended, Terry Reid....

I would have been surprised with Lenny Wolf. Page got enough flak for his Coverdale/Page project (or Coveract as he was called at the time for his ability to ape Plant's singing).
Robinson would be a surprise too, as the Crowes just released an album this year and are looking to re-conquer their place on the music scene.

Ah, but is Reid american ? That's what the only clue so far that identifies the once prospective replacement.

Obviously, there's none on earth that can out-plant Plant like Whitesnake's David Coverdale...

David has "changed" his AMAZING blues-rock voice to a cheap copy of Robert Plant, which I'm no huge fan of his voice.

Good choices would be Geddy Lee or Budgie's vocalist, though I'm sure Jimmy and John weren't considering them
