Who would you have as the Inductees of a Prog-Rock Hall of Fame in its inaugural year?

This is just a question... I don't believe there is such a thing.  Just think in terms of how the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame works... but better and without silly nominations like Madonna. Wink

So, I'll start

Perfomer: Peter Gabriel
Band: Genesis
Song/tune: a toughy... erm... get back me on this
Early Influences: cannot think of one for the moment
Lifetime Achievement: Robert Wyatt
Non-Performers: Steve Feigenbaum
Sidemen/women: again, cannot think of one for the moment

Also, feel free to have any category you like, don't limit yourself to the above.  Any thoughts and comments are welcome as well.

Debate is allowed but please keep it friendly.  Thanks!

Apologies also if this is has a) been done before and b) deemed to be in the wrong section of the forum

Hummm.. I've been thinking about this recently and I also intended to write to Bill Gates asking support for a real building, with complete installations, auditorium, facilities; in the beginning air tickets will be needed too. Big%20smile

Well, to start off we'll need to add at least 50 bands/artists/performers to have a great pavillion (in the mentioned building I suppose). In the meantime, we should discuss the place to erect (sic) the said construction: Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Québec (sic), London???

Later (after the 50 plus additions by royal decree) we should think about new inductions: 5-8 per year for acts with 20 years 'on the road': Anglagard, Symphony X and Porcupine Tree will need to wait a bit, no?

For the induction ceremony, bands must gig in the YYYYY (insert name here) Auditorium... and since one of the first bands to be inducted will be Genesis, they'll have to perform together to validate the induction. Wink

Again, Uncle Gates will be the sponsor, releasing the silver to make Gabriel and Collins play together.

LOL

Great answer, Guigo! Clap

There's also the obligatory: sorry [insert name here] cannot be with us this evening, so we have asked Phil Collins to take the award on their behalf.  However [insert name] did have this statement for us: "thanks to my fans, thanks, I hope to be there next year!". Wink

I believe the Hall should be at Charterhouse or maybe Manchester University.

How about "The Chester Thompson Auditorium". Wink

If there ever was a genre of music that would require awards per instrument: Here's prog baby! I mean Squire, Wakeman, Emerson, Palmer, Bruford and Peart have dominated rock polls for decades. But prog statuettes for guitar, keys, bass and drums would be par for the course. We could of course suggest PA as the "reputed firm" that would tabulate, verify and prepare "them there envelopes" . I would love to Emcee that event (I have experience with such farcical shows, plus who else here speaks 7 languages and knows a bit about prog? ) . Just joking, I was dreaming of Billy Cristal , again.

'...and here to present the award for "best vocal performance in prog, 2009", is James, formerly Geck0, of Prog Archives.com, your ULTIMATE PROG ROCK RESOURCE! and Samantha Fox, of Page 3 fame.'

The Evil section? Ya mean the non-music related forums dealing with Politics, religion, sex and violence (as opposed to sax and violins!) LOL

What I can't figure, in a year of excellent and original jazz rock releases, that  Mahavishnu Project (not bad admittedly but effectively a covers album) Return to the Emerald Beyond wins the prize. Does this come from having to subscribe before you can have voting rights therefore selection is by comparativley few??
