I'd love them to be here - but have to admit that, in the final analysis, they're not really as prog as Radiohead. Plus I don't really enjoy seeing so many grown men cry... They have many prog sensibilities (unlike Doves or Elbow, who kind of nod towards prog occasionally, but don't go that extra mile) - including an ELP-like bombast; but ultimately I think they're a superb rock band with admirable pretensions. I won't use the word "just", because that might belittle the amazing power of their music. What is it about Muse that makes you think they're prog? <-Serious question |

Now I cant be accused of stifling debate, at least.. I think ivan was worried that I was about to invade Poland, after my Radiohead poll. |

I agree with your appraisal of Muse. They are an excellent rock band. I think the industry had been crying out for a band like them for quite a while. There is an agression in their music which is complemented by their musicianship. I dont think they're prog - not as much as Radiohead - but I reckon they are closet proggers themselves, there are moments of , as you say bombast in their music. Didn't Rick Wakemen cite them as the possible future of British prog?? Not sure about that, but a great band nonetheless, and frankly I couldn't care less if they were in the archives or not. If the consensus is yes, I wont make an issue of it. |

Muse on this site would be a disaster. They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Jokes aside, let's not dilute this site by including clones. |

I like Muse's 'Absolution', and have heard a few other things by them, pretty good stuff. I love Radiohead--one of those dastardly folks who feels they belong here! But no, Muse just doesn't take it as far as Radiohead. In any comparison by any standard, Radiohead is way more adventurous and experimental than Muse...so I take the same stance as Certif1ed, but less enthusiastic about their possible inclusion.

Have you listened to the doves? I'd struggle to find one prog element in their music! Apart from, it's music. |

There's a whole pile of derivative, uninspired neo prog bands who are included on the grounds that their albums feature twiddly synth solos and sub Tolkien lyrics. That may have been progressive in 1973 but we've all moved on since then (in theory anyway). There's a lot of contemporary acts who are closer to the original spirit of prog than any neo prog act and I'd include Muse among them. If 'prog' means consantly rehashing Foxtrot and Close To The Edge then the genre really will have no future.

If Radiohead make it then Muse must be considered. They probably aren't as groundbreaking but definately have prog movements in their music. A band who aren't afraid to experiment and push themselves forward have more right to be here than many who are happy to rehash old ideas over and over. |

Muse is watered down Radiohead. They may sound alike, but Muse certainly lacks that extra experimental edge.

NO! This is the kind of thing all of us anti-radiohead people are whining about, yes it is whining. But by trying to say that muse is justified merely because radiohead is supports almost every point all of the anti-radioheadites are making. |
