 Topic: Waters Says Yes Gilmour Says No

I recently read two intervews, one with Dave Gilmour and one with Roger
Watere in Guitar Player magazine. Apparently Roger was offered 250
million guranteed for a Pink Floyd reunion and has all of a sudden sort
of cooled his jets about previous differences and squables. He even
mentioned that he would be interested in playing Dark Side. Dave gave a
flat no in his interview and even had to think about last year`s Live 8
appearance. Should Floyd do it again? I doubt I would go. Tickets would
be going for a king`s ransom never mind after the scalpers got their
paws on them ( Madonna tickets are going for $10,000 a pair from
scalpers for a concert in June here in Montreal ). I think Roger needs
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I would however like to see Dave do a solo tour.

Dave will do a solo tour soon. However, he won't come in Montreal  (I'm from Mtl too) The closest gig will be in Toronto.

Dave is on solo tour at moment, saw him live last month. He is accompanied by Rick Wright. Although I did pay a bit to see him... 110€.

He may really want to do it, but I don't like it how hes always saying he does, and David always say no. Making him look like the bad guy. Also, I can see why Gilmour doesn't want to; he has kids, a family, and hes not not getting any younger as the years go by. A Pink Floyd reunion tour would be HUGE and very time consuming... I'm on Gilmour's side.

What about Pink Floyd's Reunion without Gilmour? They could take another guitarist substituting for him. At least there would still be three original members...

AS much as I would like to see a full Floyd re-union, I would not pay silly buggers money to see them, especially in some ridiculous huge venue like Earls Court, where they look like ants on the stage.

You all seem to be missing one thing - Roger Waters does not belong to Pink Floyd, he left in 1987! So if a Gilmour-less reunion does take place it would have to be brokered by either Mason or Wright to begin with. Neither of these two seem to me to be much of an organiser.
It's probably academic anyway. Wright is well aligned to Gilmour as a member of his touring band and playing on his album. Mason is now aligned to Waters it seems, and will be joining his band for an apparently one-off performance of Dark Side Of The Moon at the French GP during the summer. Waters is doing a number of shows this year (not really a tour but a selection of one-off shows and festivals). It sounds a bit like Waters cashing in on Live8, but I think it is more a case of Live8 rekindling his desire to play again. Let's face it none of them need the money now.

Well, for me Waters was always the spiritus movens of the band (after Barrett departure that is). I remember listening to Pulse and they didn't convince me. They were lacking something very important I can't name now. They were, as Waters had put it, another band. On the other hand I attended Waters' gig a few years back and everything was in its place. He played PF standards almost perfect (the second vocalist was slightly different from Gilmour and that was all that disturbed me at the moment, nothing more). So, the conclusion is: Waters is Mr Pink Floyd! Even if he made a tour with Mason only (or a solo tour again) I would go on a concert.

Sounds like it's all about money. The bigger question is, do people really care about Pink Floyd anymore? I feel like yawning just thinking of them...

It brought tears to my eyes seeing them all together again at live8. That being said, I think it's time for the old dogs to rest-at least the "Pink Floyd " name. David's solo career is in excellent form, and they all manage to keep themselves busy in the music world. David will never do a reunion tour, his family comes first now, rightfully so. Gilmours version of Floyd was well intentioned and musically sound, but they are not REAL Floyd albums. Without Waters Floyd is not so much pink but more a washed out beige.
I think things are good as they are. Anyway could a new Floyd album WITH Waters ever live up to it's expectations? Could you imagine the flurry of comparisons right from the onset? How could a freshly inspired album ever be conceived in that enviroment? I say, let sleeping Floyd's lay.

probably for the best if it doesn`t happen , because it would be a great thing and great things could shock the prog world and maybe even cause mental problems

Roger Waters cares about at this point. Are people still buying
Floyd albums? Have the royalties slowed?
