Tool are decent, but PoS are way up there for me. Although neither are anything like so good as Kayo Dot or In the Woods, who I might just keep mentioning in every prog metal thread

Both Kayo Dot and In the Woods are great bands, but might be a bit of an acquired taste for most of the prog metal fans out there.

Pain of Salvation. Tool are great ... and if they release two more brilliant albums, they might have a chance against PoS. But in my opinion PoS are simply the better band. On an album vs. album level it would be a tougher choice.

Why can't the poll read, "What band do you like better?" too subjective otherwise........![](smileys/smiley11.gif)
both great, unique in their own way!

I love PoS, but I gotta say Tool, as I've never seen the former live.
When I saw Tool live for the first time in 1997, Maynard reached out,
opened my skull, removed my brain, screamed at it, and handed it back
to me. I had to walk back to my car after the show carrying it in my
hands looking mighty dazed. I was that blown away. Easily the best live
concert I've ever seen.
P.S. At the time, I had really not heard much Tool other than the radio
songs and the band opened that night with Third Eye. What a
mindf*&# of an initiation.
