Is often easy to discuss with friends or other people interested in the same genre of music and point out the best albums that identify that genre, but... What happens if you go against the flow?

Which is the "prog album that everybody loves to hate" that you like the most?

Some example of what I see as "commonly hated" albums? I'd put on the table "Abacab", or "Big Generator", or "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason"...

There are a couple of very good songs on We Can't Dance. I also like 90125 quite a lot, but I'm not sure if it's that hated.

Although I've read mediocre reviews of Peter Gabriel's "Us", I absolutely LOVE the album!

I agree with most of the posts, especially the ones about Genesis and Peter Gabriel...

Lets see...does Octavarium count as a hated album? jejejej

No, I dont have any album that is that hated really...thought I do not like at all an album which most fans of the genre like pretty much...Rush´s Counterparts...awful!

Counterparts was one of the first three by RUSH that I owned, and I think is not that bad... I bought Roll The Bones almost at the same time, and I like it more, by the way...

  • I like Rush's "Hold your fire", it seems Rush big fans don't !
  • I like Jethro Tull : "Catfish rising" (rating 2.88 in PA)
  • I like Yes : "90125" & "Talk" !

I actually like both the Floyd and the Genesis (I'm a Genesis freak after all), but I can't stand the Big Generator one...

What happened to this song we once knew so well???

ELP's 'Brain Salad Surgery' - nr.47 in the prog top 100

I know many people who hate this album(and to make things worse, they completely hate ELP)

But now serious:

Pink Floyd - The Final Cut

Don't really like it but it's not as bad as many say.

As for me it would be Camel's "Breathless". Maybe it's not hated but is definetely underappreciated and unjustifiably bashed for being too poppy. Well, it is poppy but it doesn't make it bad, at least not as much as "Abacab", "Invisible Touch" or "Big Generator". I wouldn't understand if somebody likes any of the three and in the same time says that "Breathless" is cheesy or poppy or whatever.
