Topic: Peter Gabriel’s Relgious Beliefs Posted: December 05 2005 at 17:15 |
Gabriel is obviously a spiritual man, but I was wondering if he was ever part of an organized religion?

He's very spiritual and make a lot of biblical references. The entire lamb is
about the bible as well as Supper's Ready. Just remember, it Israel.

One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

Who cares? That's a problem between him and God, I don't like to mix music with personal beliefs.

He wrote the score for the Last Temptation of Christ. Which is a very
controversial depicture of Jesus with the whole Mary Magdalene scandal. I
personally have not seen the movie so correct me if I'm wrong. Nonetheless,
this might imply that he is a very liberal christian. You can listen to these
songs on his album The Passion. Its a many beautiful pieces. It is mostly
instrumental and there are lots of middle eastern elements in it. I strongly
recommend it. Especoally to Peter Gabriel fans.

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

Here we go again, trying to grab Gabriel kicking and screaming into the born again camp. To those who claim he's a Christian, what are your sources? Just because he uses biblical references now and then doesn't make him one, anymore than the "Fountain of Salmacis" makes him a greco-roman polytheist.

I only really care about his music. His beliefs are just that; his beliefs, and they are personal to him. The Biblical references in his lyrics dont necessarily prove that he is a Christian of any kind, but point towards his public school background where he was no doubt made to read the Bible, sing hymns and pray almost everyday of the week. Some of it he probably felt quite inspired by.
My guess is that he is a fairly liberal Christian, but...so what...? His religous stance is as important to me as his views on the pedestrianisation of Reading town centre..
