 Topic: Best Genesis Studio Album After Duke

Amazing how a band can change so much. I almost cry when I am forced to listen to Abacab, knowing this is the band (or atleast most of it) that relased album such as Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. Or Lamb Lies with a song like "In The Cage"...
Perhaps the question should have been the least bad album, anyways my choice is, surprisingly enough, Calling all Stations... )=

I am also standing for "Calling all Stations". Good underrated AOR album with excellent Ray Wilson on vocals. At least they tried something different after a long time (even if it is not totally prog). Of Collins era "pop" albums it would be "Genesis".

It has to be 'We cant dance' simply coz the long songs on there are so good. The pop ones are not too bad either...
'Calling all stations' however, I feel is a WOEFULLY underrated album, it has some very good songs and many simply dismiss it coz of Ray wilson...it is NOT an easy album to like but it has its rewards in the end

Abacab for me. A lot of people seem to dislike the album, and though the album is not one of my favourites, I still like it very much. I would even say that there is no bad track on the album.
Not many will agree with me, I'm sure.

I cant agree on Abacab! 'Whodunnit' is quite simply the WORST thing they ever did and that will always drag that album down for me....
Love 'Me and Sarah Jane'...what a great song.

I've got all 5, but this poll has just reminded me that the last time I
listened to any of them was the month that Calling All Stations came
out! 
I'd have to say though, that in 1986, I was a pop/rock fan and I
thought Invisble Touch was a fine album, by the early 1990s, when I
started to hear the others, I was already a full-fledged prog convert,
and they had much tougher standards to live up to ...
In that context, it's Invisble Touch ... still a very good 80s pop/rock
album ... Land Of Confusion is one of my favourite videos ever

It has to be 'We Can't Dance'.
'Fading Lights' would hold its own on any of the post-Gabriel albums and 'Driving the Last Spike' is very evocative to a Northern England man such as myself. It eloquently expresses the fear of those brave men who through their pitifully-rewarded and honest toil shaped the Industrial Revolution and hence the modern world. Quite superb.

I agree 110%. When I first heard that song (Whodunnit)I couldn't fast forward through it fast enough. 'Me and Sarah Jane' is my favorite track off of that album, with 'Like it or Not' a quick second. I would have to go with ABACAB, Genesis lost me after that. 'Genesis' was a joke. I actually forgot about that album.

Have to say I hated 'Calling All Stations...'- for me the fault wasn't in Wilson's vocals, but the songs were well below par for Genesis in my opinion.
If we are being brutally honest, none of these albums are terribly great really, and are patchy affairs most of the time, yet with this in mind, 'We Can't Dance' seems the best here as it panders to all fans of Genesis, with a terrific prog epic in 'Fading Lights' that is easily the best thing they did since 'The Lady Lies', plus some well above par AOR in 'No Son Of Mine', 'Jesus He Knows Me', 'Driving The Last Spike', 'Dreaming While You Sleep' and 'Living Forever', that at least attempt to engage the listener.

Gotta agree with Iván here. Duke is ok, but everything after that is absolutely terrible.

I have to concur - "Duke" is a great album in many ways, but with the exception of a few individual tracks, Genesis released nothing of note afterwards IMO.

It's not exactly a tempting selection, but in common with a few others I'd go for We Can't Dance. There are glimpses of the old magic in between the radio friendly pap, and it's probably their most balanced set after Duke.
I could die happy without hearing any of them again, though.

Calling all Stations. The worst is ABACAB: not progressive at all and not a good pop album in return. Calling all Stations at least is not a dummy Phil Collins' solo album.

I can't understand !!! Abacab leading this poll ???  This is the worst album by GENESIS of all the times...  And look, this is my favorite band, I have all their albuns. I need to say that I prefer Invisible Touch to Abacab.
But my vote goes to Genesis (1983). Even the pop songs are great in this album (anyone here remember Silver Rainbow, Home by the Sea & It's Gonna Get Better ?).

Abacab is a two star album if I'm feeling happy one day, but other than that, the rest of the albums after Duke is ABSOLUTE, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT sh*t!
