Topic: Mars Volta vs Radiohead Posted: October 24 2005 at 13:38 |
Mars Volta are very innovative and impressionant, but sounds me like differents fusions of metal with other genres and a little influence of Fripp's guitars. and the singer sounds much heavy-metal!! not very emotional music...
Radiohead for me is the natural evolution of the scene (specially Kid A and Amnesiac (Kid B?). electronic is the future). No more copy of the best 70's bands with others genres. and Yorke's voice transports me far... far away!!
for radiohead is my vote, of course

Radiohead have accomplished much more. But it's not a fair poll, since TMV are a very young band.

If we compare the two TMV albums to Radiohead's first two I think it's fairly obvious the winner isn't going o begin with an R. But Kid A and Amnesiac would just beat TMV's output so far for me, and the new tune sounds nice as well. Ask me again in ten years

I casted a vote for Mars Volta because I think all of their materials are pretty interesting, specially on the album De-Loused in the Comatorium.
The band combines well structured progressive elements, such as jazz and psychedelic, and there is a big influence from King Crimson, atlhough I'd never imagine Mars Volta as progressive...
I also like Radiohead and I think their evolution from alternative rock to a more experimental/post-rock is also interesting...

Mars Volta for me, Frances The Mute is the most significant album of the 2000's imo, just as Tool's Ænima held that distinction for the 90's.

Radiohead touches me more in the heart, so they get my vote. Great artists, but the same goes for The Mars Volta. Bravo for two bands which have gained quite an amount of popularity with such uncompromising music!
