Mars Volta are very innovative and impressionant, but sounds me like differents fusions of metal with other genres and a little influence of Fripp's guitars. and the singer sounds much heavy-metal!! not very emotional music...
Radiohead for me is the natural evolution of the scene (specially Kid A and Amnesiac (Kid B?). electronic is the future). No more copy of the best 70's bands with others genres. and Yorke's voice transports me far... far away!!
for radiohead is my vote, of course

Radiohead have accomplished much more. But it's not a fair poll, since TMV are a very young band.

If we compare the two TMV albums to Radiohead's first two I think it's fairly obvious the winner isn't going o begin with an R. But Kid A and Amnesiac would just beat TMV's output so far for me, and the new tune sounds nice as well. Ask me again in ten years

I casted a vote for Mars Volta because I think all of their materials are pretty interesting, specially on the album De-Loused in the Comatorium.
The band combines well structured progressive elements, such as jazz and psychedelic, and there is a big influence from King Crimson, atlhough I'd never imagine Mars Volta as progressive...
I also like Radiohead and I think their evolution from alternative rock to a more experimental/post-rock is also interesting...

Mars Volta for me, Frances The Mute is the most significant album of the 2000's imo, just as Tool's Ænima held that distinction for the 90's.

| This is a very wise notice.
I voted for Radiohead though I feel a very high potential in TMV. They would gain interest and fans in "calming down" a little bit, giving some more structure to their music. Surfing on the dissonance wave, like KC did so well in time, requires experience. France the Mute has 15 to 20 minutes of unnecessary "noise" that doesn't bring anything to the listener and makes the CD quite difficult to listen to in one shot.

Good point there, although I still feel TMV fall off the dissonance wave with style.

20 minutes of noise is overdoing it....i think at a max there is 7 minutes of non-melodical textures...besides the longest track Cassandra gemmini at 32 minutes is completly without noise

Nope.
Since Radiohead have clearly produced 3 excellent prog albums, and I'm only familiar with one TMV album, the assumption from that conversation clearly indicated that there was only one prog band - so it had to be Radiohead.

No... he said Radiohead have produced more prog albums than TMV could possibly have done, therefore if only one is a prog band it must be Radiohead.

No - I'm not saying that, I'm applying logic based on the facts I have to hand to the above argument that stated that only one was a prog band.
Having re-listened to the title track of "De-Loused In The Crematorium", I would disagree that only one is a prog band - but TMV do sound a little bit "wannabe" rather than real prog.
Everything is in place for a very standard rock song, with extended "fills" and bridges - a practice familiar to any Led Zeppelin fan. The riffs are overly complex, rhythmically speaking, in places - as if done for it's own sake, and there's only a partial feel for the overall structure - too much of a testosterone fuelled need to "get on with it" rather than let the music develop organically, and giving in to that irritating trend of going off at a tangent when compositional ideas run out.
TMV show promise - and perhaps even a little Radiohead influence in places - but the vocalist is hardly progressive at all. The music overall has that fashionable feel that progressive metal has; clinging tightly to standard tried and tested metal type sounds while trying to baffle the audience with "complex" riffs and time changes. The spacey interludes have been done before as well. I feel like I'm listening to samples from a Pink Floyd or Hawkwind album. Some of Beck's work stops and drops down to sections of noise or even random samples of music from elsewhere - but Beck has far more style, originality and a better sense of the bigger picture.
I get none of that listening to, for example, "Paranoid Android".
So from what I have heard, and the evidence inherent in the music, Radiohead are the more progressive of the two.

Very true ... that song is one, if not THE example of Radiohead's progressiveness. I had a bootleg of Mike Keneally playing that song live - just vocals and one slightly distorted guitar. AMAZING!
