Dial "M" for Murder because this was murder hacking away at a longer list, and some want to see fatwa on me for what I left out.
I had 75 of my favourites to choose from, which already excused lots of popular choices, such as Marillion, Mostly Autumn, Magenta, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Mars Volta, Pat Metheny, Metallica etc. For my list I mercilessly and rather haphazardly culled my long list to the 25 in the poll. The one I feel worst about leaving out is Mellow Candle, but I might do a second 25. Here was my master list: Egisto Macchi Magick Brother & Mystic Sister Magma Michel Magne The Magnetic Fields Les Maledictus Sound Malicorne Mandingo Maneige Herbie Mann Manfred Mann's Earth Band Manna / Mirage Gerard Manset Albert Marcoeur Marius Popp Marsupilami Massive Attack Mastodon Matching Mole maudlin of the Well Bennie Maupin La Máquina De Hacer Pájaros Maxophone Mazzy Star Shelagh McDonald Loreena McKennitt McLuhan Mellow Candle Melody's Echo Chamber (Melody Prochet) Melt-Banana Memoriance Mercury Rev Message Mezquita MGMT MIA Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses Mid-Air Thief Midlake Midnight Oil Charles Mingus Miranda Sex Garden Miriodor miRthkon Joni Mitchell Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd Kimio Mizutani Connan Mockasin Mogwai Juana Molina The Moontrekkers Camila Moreno Morgen Mörglbl Douji Morita Klaus Morlock Giorgio Moroder Morphine Ennio Morricone This Mortal Coil Morte Macabre Mother Gong Motorpsycho Mount Eerie The Mountain Goats Moving Gelatine Plates Mr. Bungle Mr. Sirius The Muffins Martha Skye Murphy Museo Rosenbach Os Mutantes Mythos ----------------------------------------------- This poll contains acts both in and out of PA, but I feel that it "works". Again, vote for three in the poll, or more or less (up to you), and please mention those, and I encourage people to mention what they like that is not in the poll. I expect that the "others" would be more popular than my list. And feel free to vote with limited familiarity. It's not a contest and the 25 I listed simply are 25 that I enjoy. here are the past polls: 25 "L" List Acts & 25 "K" List Acts & 25 "I and J" List Acts & 25 "H" List Acts & 29 "G" List Acts & 26 "F" List Acts & 25 "E" List Acts & 26 "D" List Acts & 25 "C" List Acts & 25 "B" List Acts & 25 "A" List Acts |

Mostly Autumn, Magenta & Marillion would be my principle three here...
I would also choose Moody Blues, MMEB, Mahavishnu Orch (I'm surprised these weren't included, Greg?), Mastermind, Myrath, Mind's Eye & Magellan... and in homage to my teenage years, Magnum!

I'll admit I cheated and voted for all of my first four. They would all make the top three in any other letter. Joni Mitchell Magma Ennio Morricone Egisto Macchi - Herbie Mann Moving Gelatine Plates Klaus Morlock Morte Macabre Mr. Bungle Juana Molina These would complete my list of 15 (Bennie Maupin might have ended up in the top ten) from your list:
Fifteen additional favorites not in the poll or you list. The three first would be somewhere in my top ten: Grachan Moncur III Jackie McLean Metallica (four first albums) The Modern Jazz Quartet
Lloyd McNeill Jean-Pierre Massiera Mercyful Fate (first two) Charles Mingus The Meters Madvillain Jerzy Milian Mos Def Lee Morgan Manowar (four first albums) The Monkees |

Magma, Motorpsycho, and Mercury Rev. There is evidence that I am an associate fabric that has a lot of diameters.

^ I much prefer Air's Moon Safari to the band Moon Safari. I think it's wonderful that there is so much diverse music that people like, including just at a "little" community of forumites here at a fairly niche site just for the letter M. :)
-------------------------------------------- While Magma, Morricone and Moroder have been the most important to me for the longest time, and Macchi is brilliant, I might go with some things that have no vote. But later.... |

Magma - Mogwai - Mr. Bungle. Putting This Mortal Coil under M is extravagant... they're pretty good though. Motorpsycho and Egisto Macchi also narrowly lost out. Would have loved to vote for Manfred Mann's Earth Band who got me into music addiction and prog.

This is worse than me putting Le Orme under "L".

your jokes are fine Greg... we all just have to attune ourselves to your way of thinking first... don't put yourself down!

Hi,
Oh well ... I guess it is impossible to list everyone ... Missing, in my book, is one that deserves to be there ... MAN, the Welsh band with Mickie and Deke ... just a good listen to Mickie yodeling with that choir in one album ... beats more than a bunch of stuff here ... I guess Deke's book "Man on the Road to Nowhere" ... applies here ... it's a great book, despite it being so sad. "C'mon" will continue to be forgotten and not appreciated is my over reacted thought!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

A lot of artist are missing, but it's just a poll, with a limited number of slots. Edited by Cristi - September 06 2024 at 07:32 |
