Subject: 25 "M" List Acts

Dial "M" for Murder because this was murder hacking away at a longer list, and some want to see fatwa on me for what I left out.

I had 75 of my favourites to choose from, which already excused lots of popular choices, such as Marillion, Mostly Autumn, Magenta, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Mars Volta, Pat Metheny, Metallica etc. For my list I mercilessly and rather haphazardly culled my long list to the 25 in the poll. The one I feel worst about leaving out is Mellow Candle, but I might do a second 25.

Here was my master list:

Egisto Macchi
Magick Brother & Mystic Sister
Magma
Michel Magne
The Magnetic Fields
Les Maledictus Sound
Malicorne
Mandingo
Maneige
Herbie Mann
Manfred Mann's Earth Band

This poll contains acts both in and out of PA, but I feel that it "works".

Again, vote for three in the poll, or more or less (up to you), and please mention those, and I encourage people to mention what they like that is not in the poll. I expect that the "others" would be more popular than my list. And feel free to vote with limited familiarity. It's not a contest and the 25 I listed simply are 25 that I enjoy.

Mostly Autumn, Magenta & Marillion would be my principle three here...

I would also choose Moody Blues, MMEB, Mahavishnu Orch (I'm surprised these weren't included, Greg?), Mastermind, Myrath, Mind's Eye & Magellan...

and in homage to my teenage years, Magnum!

I'll admit I cheated and voted for all of my first four. They would all make the top three in any other letter.

Joni Mitchell
Magma
Ennio Morricone
Egisto Macchi
-
Herbie Mann
Moving Gelatine Plates
Klaus Morlock
Morte Macabre
Mr. Bungle
Juana Molina

These would complete my list of 15 (Bennie Maupin might have ended up in the top ten) from your list:

Magma, Motorpsycho, and Mercury Rev. There is evidence that I am an associate fabric that has a lot of diameters.

I would also add Moon Safari to the list.

^ I much prefer Air's Moon Safari to the band Moon Safari. I think it's wonderful that there is so much diverse music that people like, including just at a "little" community of forumites here at a fairly niche site just for the letter M. :)

--------------------------------------------

While Magma, Morricone and Moroder have been the most important to me for the longest time, and Macchi is brilliant, I might go with some things that have no vote. But later....

Magma - Mogwai - Mr. Bungle. Putting This Mortal Coil under M is extravagant... they're pretty good though. Motorpsycho and Egisto Macchi also narrowly lost out. Would have loved to vote for Manfred Mann's Earth Band who got me into music addiction and prog.

Hi,

Oh well ... I guess it is impossible to list everyone ...

Missing, in my book, is one that deserves to be there ... MAN, the Welsh band with Mickie and Deke ... just a good listen to Mickie yodeling with that choir in one album ... beats more than a bunch of stuff here ...

I guess Deke's book "Man on the Road to Nowhere" ... applies here ... it's a great book, despite it being so sad. "C'mon" will continue to be forgotten and not appreciated is my over reacted thought!

A lot of artist are missing, but it's just a poll, with a limited number of slots.

^^ I think Pedro means they're missing from Greg's initial list, not PA.

They were quite well known and respected around these parts... indeed, they are still going and toured recently.

"What a piece of work is Man" (Hamlet).

Nor would I wish to try to list every one sin this poll of 25 if it were possible because these, as I made clear, are some of MY favourites. My list of 75 in the opening post also is but some of my favourites. Maybe Man (or MAN) deserves more of my listening. I have encouraged people to mention what they like that is both in the poll and out of the poll. And I don't treat these as contests, and commonly prefer not to think in such terms, so for me it's not about beating anyone (well, beating some dead horses perhaps). I also have encouraged people in this series to mention what they don't like. As I think I have made clear, I like specifics, so please do tell me what you know well and would remove from the list to make way for Man. To each his or her tastes, but it seems rather uncouth to tell someone what is better than what that person likes. I can't think of any of these polls where you did mention liking anything in the poll so if I didn't know better, I might assume that you like nothing of my interests. Consider making your one polls of your personal favourites (covering one that I have not) as I expect your interests would "beat' my interests time and time again, or at least from your perspective.

Commonly, if people know things off a list, yet no cares to mention anything specific on it, then I am less inclined to seriously consider and appreciate their mentions. A little appreciation, tact, and consideration all around can go a long way (I know I can be lacking there).

The neurodivergent's jokes can be the bane of the normie. Putting oneself down, self-deprecation, is part of the culture that I grew up in. When overdone it can seem like or be a pathetic cry for affirmation and attention. "No, Greg, you're funny even when you don't make mess up." There's some self-affirmation.   PA can seem like quite a sadistic place sometimes, but this erstwhile masochist can enjoy that.

there have been occasional days when the metaphorical clouds of despair part, the sunshine of optimism radiates and even I can experience fleeting delusions of adequacy... Embarrassed
