definitely Libre Service, hands down. Watch, Gilmour, Expresso II, Cyclone, Wet Dreams and PDT are next. But one can see why 78 is not that good: if three of my first seven are solo albums, I'd say that it is not a strong year. BTW, I don't think the albums in the list of the first 78 poll is better. I can't remember what I voted in it. My 78 list (in case there is a third poll): 13 Ripaille La Vieille que l'On Brula Fra 1978 12 Bubu Anabelas Arg 1978 12 F.M. let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

From the ten albums I know in the poll, Richard Wright's masterpiece wins it with a splash!

and still no BJH XII to vote for!
tbh, I've only heard 3 of these (I've probably also heard the TD, but being as it would have been some time ago and I can't remember it, I'll say 'no'), so I went for: Yes > marginally over Renaissance > Jeff Wayne

BJH almost made it, but I found more interesting choices. I also don't think that Tormato is better than A Song For All Seasons and War of the Worlds.

you say it was not a good year and yet you came up with a long list of albums. I think it was a good year, I like a lot of albums from 1978, hence the poll title.

Some while since I've heard all three, I have to be honest, so maybe some revision is needed on my part, but War of The Worlds had lost it's appeal by the time I'd reached 13, along with ELO's Out Of The Blue...

Really? It never got old for me. While I do not listen to it as often as i used to, it's still great to get back to it every once in a while.

I was born in 1968 and always think of it as a sound track from my later childhood. I could say to you that I'll give it another listen sometime; my feelings will no doubt have been moderated with the passage of time (every so often, I say this about the early 'Sky' albums), but in truth I doubt whether I will, purely because there is just SO much good music out there which continues to be produced unabated and only so many hours in a lifetime...

true, but there are albums that never get old and there's always pleasure getting back to them, plus there's also the nostalgia factor that is a reason to get back to certain albums.

Gilmour's debut for me, the best solo album he has released.

U.K. is a masterpiece. Light Years ahead of the others and still sounds fresh.

UK - UK followed by Jose Cid - 10.000 Anos Depois Entre Venus E Marte. From what I know these are the two best prog albums of this poll.
