Hello dears.

As you should see, I'm a newbie here, but I think that after years of listening my favourite s**t fairly well, so I wanna start my forum life with a BANG!

Listen here... Even I loved Dream Theater as much as my right arm (and, by the way, I still like them very much...) I think they lost their edge some year ago; the last CD I fully enjoy is SDOIT; in fact the only song I really enjoy from Octavarium is the title track, and just because it has "PINK FLOYD" written all over it.

This year, I think both Opeth and Porcupine Tree did a better job, with two absolute masterpieces, with far better songs and equally jaw-dropping musicianship.

Anyway, given the fact that my main musical interest today is Grateful Dead, you can already call me "30 years old fart"!

Aw, my God! My first reply!

Thank to ED for getting your hands dirty and reply to my post...

Great logo, ED... It's Shadow Gallery, isn't it?

Still, better songs than DT, and kick-a** musicianship; I really enjoy ROOM V, and of course Floydian Memories...

^ Well... 1 day and I'll have My hands on Room V...  I'll tell the whole world if truellly beats Tyranny...

Me thinks You Really don't love DT after SFAM... Its true that Octavarium isn't a masterpiece... but hey, FII was even worse IMO... So if Everything is correct & the stras are in place, we are going 2 have a nice DT album in the vein of SFAM or I&W in 2007...

An  btw, ToT wasn't a album for everyone... You know that... But whats wrong with The Six Degrees?

I ovverreact on DT bashing nowadays, becouse I'm going 2 see 'em the 1st time live in 3 days!!!!

Get ROOM V as soon as you can! Anyway, Tyranny is and will be nearly unbeatable...

About DT, nothing's wrong with SDOIT, as it is the CD from them that I listen the most, even more than SFAM (which I really like, and think it's their best).

About ToT, when I got it I listened to it for 1 MONTH straight, without pulling it out from my car stereo!

Now, it sounds to me like a "hollow" album, without much feeling and melody, only lots of technique, and speed, and killer riffs... That why, from time to time, I go back to it, but with no great expectations; still, it is played more than FII...

Go to the gig and enjoy it, because they are great live; I've seen them in 1999, and maybe I'll go to the gig too when they come to Italy at the end of october.

So You don't know what will happen in one year with Ghost Reveries or Deadwing... Maybe those albums will become a bit shalow (especially the seconds, since theres a song like that there) as ToT was? Only time will tell...

I think you're right, we must wait, but I think Deadwing it's a truly great album, or at least it doesn't sound like a 1'000'000 tons train running through your ears, just like ToT...

In a year time, anyway, I'll have 5 or 6 new Grateful Dead releases to worry about, so what the f**k...?

Only say that Room V is the best album of Shadow Gallery (with a lot of a distance over the others SG's releases. Tyranny included). Porcupine's tree Deadwing is great, but In Absentia or Lightbulb sun are better. In the case of Opeth, Blackwater Park or Damnation are much better than Ghost Reveries too. In conlusion: the last releases of Dream Theater (ToT, Ocatavarium), Opeth (Deliverance, Ghost Reveries) and Porcupine Tree (Deadwing) are clearly inferior than their previous albums (DT's Metropolis II, Six Degrees; Opeth's Blackwater Park, Damnation; PT's Lightbulb Sun, In Absentia). Nowadays they are in same point.

We were always be much human than we whish to be.

I'm gona go with DT, but prcupine tree is a great second

Octavarium...oh god i do this one too oftenIt has a lot of great ideas, but because they wrote it in the studio, the recorded it as soon as they wrote it. This gives them no time to play around wiht the ideas and get them to their full potential. This makes the album sound very underwritten. It has some great songs on it though, but not up to DT's standards

as for ToT- really good, but as tortellino stated, it doesnt have much feeling or emotion...

FII on the other hand is an amzinmg amlbum! Very oirgnal with some damn good songs. Myungs bass playing is at his best here because of shrininan . Derrek brouhgt alot of funk improv jamming stuff which i think is really cool( especially on Lines in the Sand) this funkieness gave a lot of oppertunity for Myung, and really all the band, to really show off their sh*t without going into crazy unison lines.

Six degrees- disc one is very weak because of it's flow, it dies after blind faith, but disc two!!!! disc two is amazing and some of their best work!

Deadwing sucks....I'm sorry but compared to their other stuff, it does!

I personnaly havent heard ghost reveries, but thats cause i hate Opeth...

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

a month ago, I would have told you DT without hesitation.  Opeth has been quite impressive, but overall I have to say that Porcupine Tree has possibly become my new favorite band.  The first album i bought was In Absentia a few months ago, since then I've gotten into Deadwing and Signify as well.  These guys are a truly great band that deserves FAR more recognition than they get.

Why vs? Why not all together?

I suppose Opeth would be one of my favourite bands, moreso than Dream Theater or Porcupine Tree. But that's just me.

PT and Opeth on the rise

I see DT on a slight Decline

I love all three bands- yeah- the last DT album I enjoyed was SDOIT (disc 2 of course)

Ghost Revries and Deadwing are top-notch
