As you can see I choosed 2 albums per band...the ones I think are the most representive of that band

My choice is Close to the Edge

Achtung baby! This is not a which album is better, but which represents prog at its best if you want to show maybe a friend what prog is...with just one album.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery would be ideal, but since it's not on the list I went for King Crimson's In The Court of the Crimson King since it defined the genre.

I'm confused about the question, so I'll answer both.

OK for this one I might say "Bridge Across Forever" by Transatlantic. It somes up a lot of the bombast of Prog for me, in its Genre at any rate.

Poll Question: Which album represents prog at its best...????

Difficult, I'm tempted to sat "Relayer" by Yes.

As neither choices are hear, I'll choose "Selling Englsnd  By The Pound".

Maybe "Red". I think it presents a wider palette of progressive element's than "Close to The Edge", though I like that one too.

sorry to be so predictable, but if I had to choose 1 CD, because of my musical upbringing, CTTE is THE quintessential prog album....
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I've always considered the big three albums of 1972 (Foxtrot, CttE, TaaB) to all be equal on terms as the essential prog album.  I'll vote for TaaB just because that's what I'm listening to right now.
And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
I never said I was frightened of dying.

I voted Pawn Hearts, which is my favorited prog album of ever, then I read El Bothy's clarification and for my idea of prog, if I had to say it with just one album, I'd say In a glass house-Gentle Giant...but ...do you think we all have the same idea of what is prog...?
