My next 2 %1/2 hours of music is:

Selections of Awake by Dream Theater
Planet of The Apes (1968) soundtrack - Jerry Goldsmith
The Residents - Animal Lover
Carrie and Lowell - Surfjan Stevens

Clap
Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

All of the albums I listened to today were in one or another cosmic/psychedelic/meditative.

Can - Radio Waves
I’m still deeply saddened by Jaki Liebezeit’s passing. I had not realized it, but he, and Can as a whole, for that matter, was very important in my musical development. This album is a fantastically-recorded bootleg. The 35-minute improvisation of “Up the Bakerloo” is equally moving as it is hypnotic and “Shikaku Maru Ten” is a lost gem, which grows to be among my favorite Can tracks. If you like Can, you need to investigate this one.

Danny Zeitlin - Invasion of the Body Snatchers OST I revisited this old favorite movie of mine yesterday and was really astonished by the quality of the soundtrack. This is a perfect interplay of stunning spacey synthesizer sounds (not so soundscape-based, but rather lead-oriented in the lower register) and a symphonic orchestra. Musically, this sounds to be influenced by Schoenberg, maybe Bartok. All in all, this is an excellent soundtrack!

Älgarnas Trädgård - Framtiden Är Ett Svävande Skepp, Förankrat I Forntiden Like this untypeable title, this music is quite an inscrutable mishmash, but not in the negative sense of the word. This music utilizes elements of German rock music of the time, field recordings, what sounds like Swedish folk music, electronic experimentation, and many more. Amazing music! I need to check out the recent release of their music.

Sun Araw  - Beach Head Great sophomore effort from one of my favorite modern acts. What is there to say, this is great psychedelic experimental rock in the 21st century landscape.

Pôle - Inside the Dream An interesting find. Very much in the vein of Heldon, modest instrumentally, but with some really good ideas. The title track, a 24-minute electronic psych-folk ballad is especially interesting. A pretty solid work.

DOM - Edge of Time Oh, how much I just love this album. This is so ahead of its time. This dark acid-drenched kosmische industrial folk monster manages to impress me every time I listen to it. Beautiful, unfamiliar sonic landscapes.

Catharsis - Les Chevrons I have been enjoying this obscure French space rock band very much recently. A bit similar to Ummagumma/Atom Heart Mother-era Pink Floyd, but more in keeping with the psychedelic rock song concept. Still, it’s quite innovative and is loads of fun to listen to.

Dexter Wansel - Life on Mars Much different from all of the other albums, but equally great! Elegant, funky jazz-rock with loads of “futuristic” ARP leads. It’s always a great pleasure to come back to this album.

Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.

Cheers, man....Yes, it's easy to ramble off when I love not only the band's music, but also the film series it's a `soundtrack' to!

Ha, yes! Back on nightshift, how observant of you! Although I didn't play a few of my usual other first-night discs like the Jefferson Airplane debut or the Magic Carpet one - will likely get to them tonight!

I hoped that Taproban one would be good, but they've got one of the best keyboardists in modern RPI, so it's off to a good start! Cover art is great again as well.

^ I just watched half of the movie on Youtube, the girl was too hot to die Disapprove

I used to have some traditions as well but the days seem very much alike now. That must be why I go to so many concerts Tongue

It's quite different from the last, not so dark. One thing I find disappointing is that they got a saxophone player for one track and the next one they use a cr*ppy keyboard saxophone sound. It's shocking Confused

Oh yeah, they should have kept her around the entire movie - so stunning! Heh, I had to laugh, where exactly do the corpses get the horses from?! Might be due for a rewatch!

Yes, I heard the one or two preview tracks from the new Taproban album, and I instantly thought it sounded quite different as well. Not BAD different, though, thankfully!

Klaus Schulze - Dig It (Not really, when the drums are the best thing about his music.)
Einzelgänger - s/t (A very obscure Kraftwerk-like album from Giorgio Moroder, before his Disco fame.)
Automat - s/t (Proto Italo-Disco. I had to listen to some classics of the genre after it Tongue)
Jorge Palma - O Lado Errado da Noite (First listen. One of his most interesting albums from the 80's.)

Definitely! Vinicius, you couldn't have said it better! Smile Tom Ozric pointed out to me that Edge of Time is not that far stylistically from what Pink Floyd have been doing around A Saucerful of Secrets and I think it's true in a way, though DOM were further ahead of their time with this one, in my opinion. "Let Me Explain" is just the proof for that. Beautiful, beautiful album with a story-like atmosphere. I wish there was more material from them.

Today's listens:
Takehisa Kosugi - Catch Wave
Can - Soon Over Babaluma
Osanna - L'Uomo (surprisingly good, this is no Palepoli, of course, but it's really good heavy psychedelic rock with progressive aspirations)
Osanna - Palepoli (Heart)
Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest
Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided.
