Last two days:

Ingrannagi della Valle – Warm Spaced Blue
Promenade – Noi ai dir di Noi
Hostsonaten – Symphony no 1: Cupid and Psyche
La Bocca della Verita - Avenoth
Haken – Affinity
Dungen – Allas Sak
Dungen - Haxan
Steven Wilson – 4 ½
Le Orme – Uomo di Pezza
Apoteosi – s/t
Harald Grosskopf – Synthesist
Klaus Schulze - Body Love 2
Steve Roach – Light Fantastic

Adelbert von Deyen – Sternzeit – I’m so happy to have a nice new CD reissue (thanks again, Sam!) of this to replace my crackly vinyl of it. Sounds like hearing it for the first time all over again.

Antonius Rex – Ralefun - Such a beautiful album, their one moment that sounds like a straighter RPI album (tons of flute and acoustic guitar helps), or at least comes the closest to it. Opener `Magic Sadness’ is so simple and lovely, and both it and `Agonia per un Amore’ wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a P.F.M album. Great album overall.

CosaRara - s/t
Our Solar System - In Time
Gotic - Gegants i Serpentines
Jorge Palma - Quarto Minguante
Banda do Casaco - Coisas do Arco da Velha (More than ever I noticed how uninsteresting the second half is, the first one is excellent though. I noticed this time how "Olá Margarida" reminds of KC: the guitars, ghostly female voice and strings sound like something out of Islands. The lead vocals also seem like Wetton singing in Portuguese)

I really like Et Cetera. A really unique band on the edge of krautrock and ECM avant-jazz. Excellent stuff! Smile

I discovered Knirsch earlier this year, I really liked it but I don't remember a single note of it... I'll trust Tymon's description Smile By the way, is the self-titled album from the German or the Canadian band? Wink

I'll have to look into Haxan eventually, I'm into Allas Sak right now.

Finally, a break from school.

Terry Riley - Poppy Nogood And The Phantom Band "All Night Flight"  I love Terry Riley's late-sixties/early-seventies electronic experiments. This album is exceptional, because it throws some jazz into the equation with very tasty sax playing. But, as always is the case with Terry Riley, it's the tape device+organ affair that makes this such an interesting listen.

Hey Sagi, good to see you pop in! Hope you and your family have a good holiday season, buddy.

I haven't heard that band at all...have made a note of it to look into them and play some YouTube clips....will report back.

How good is that Dungen `Haxan' album?! Just started with it the other day, it's a ripper.

By the way, thanks for you also suggesting I check them out live, we had a Dungen concert in Melbourne here about three weeks ago, one of the best things I've seen/heard all year. Not only that, I got guitarist Reine Fiske to sign my Morte Macabre and Paatos `Timeloss' LP's, he seemed kind of dumbfounded when he saw them! He was looking over the Paatos one and said `I don't think I've thought of this album in almost fifteen years...'

Heh, I did consider taking my Landberk `Riktigt Äkta' LP along as well, but that was a picture LP in a clear pastic sleeve, so his only option would have been to sign the actual vinyl and ruin it!

ohhh dude, I'd kill for a Dungen concert! I'm glad it turned out to be a good one...and also meeting Reine Fiske...this is so cool Clap
Haxan was such an easy listening for me, I loved it from the first spin, definitely one of my favorite albums this year.

And do check Et Cetera, I'm guessing you're gonna dig them eventually. Knirsch is mostly fusion actually and not so krautrock (there's only one long experimental krautrock tune there) but it's superb all the way through! And also the line up is surprising, drummer John Hiseman from Colosseum and the excellent Larry Coryell on guitars! The first album is pure krautrock with all the experimental oddities and cool ideas, great album imo, so check any of them depending on your mood...

The Tony Williams Lifetime - Emergency! What a dynamite of an album this is! Tony Williams' band plays a much different breed of jazz-fusion than that of his pioneering contemporaries. Very heavy, energetic with odd themes as basis. Splendid organ work from Larry Young and John McLaughlin on guitar. Fantastic!

Eberhard Weber - The Following Morning This album went very well with today morning's atmosphere. This is an ambient jazz masterpiece. No percussion on here. Just Eberhard Weber's "swollen" upright bass with electric piano touches, all in a delicate orchestral cape. Beautiful, beautiful work.

Faust - 71 Minutes Some of this album is material that could have appeared on Faust's fifth official album if they hadn't broken up. Some real gems on here. "Giggy Smile", my favorite cut, is a fascinating re-work of the instrumental part of "Picnic on a Frozen River" from Faust IV, kind of in the vein of Zappa's King-Kong. You need to hear this!

Laurie Spiegel - The Expanding Universe Flowing electronic experimentation that never experiments with your patience. I could listen to this all day. Four different pieces, each with somewhat of a different feel, but all with the same distinctive approach. Kingdom of the sine wave!

So far, the selections of vinyl I've chosen to spin on our Christmas Eve day have been :
ANTHRAX - For All Kings
MEGADETH - Rust In Peace
THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN - s/t
GENESIS - A Trick Of The Tail
...............,,,,all titles that my sister can tolerate (........so I can crank 'em up)
And now.....    GORGUTS - Pleiades' Dust...............featuring my favourite 'Extreme Metal' drummer, Patrice Hamelin. The album is up there with my personal 'all time' Prog favourites ( whether it be Anglagard, Caravan, Elephant9 or Hatfield & The North......).
f**k spellcheck........it just doesn't work.......
