^ ^ I agree, make the music that you want to hear and play. When you're passionate about what you're making, there will be people who will appreciate it.

And thanks! Actually, for the keyboard sound, I used an electric organ from the late '60s which went through a microphone into a guitar amp, and on the guitar amp I used a POG 2 effect pedal.

I hope your project goes well and Happy New Year!

Do you have a plan for what you are going to write about in your lyrics? You could write in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person in literal or metaphoric terms about fantasy or down-to-earth stuff. You could try to get personal or be very distant. The choices are oh-ho-so-many.
I don't work for a label. I'd like to, but I'd have to turn out some recordings first with whatever means I have, which is what I'm working on.

As far as lyrics go, I have a general overview of the songs. Mostly about feeling grandiosely bad, great, alienated, bittersweet without having much reason to. I plan to approach them using symbols and an approach to theme that I found in a writing theory book. I suppose I should just write the songs and worry about revising those two lines when I have something to revise, but sometimes I write an entire song and I can't get the first two lines in the song right.

Something I've made these past few days. I'm no distinguished musician, composer, or anything, really, but I do like tossing some ideas into a guitar pro file and seeing where they go. Like I said, I'm not a very talented anything (perhaps except drums, I'm ok at drums), so my songs stop at MIDI.
Comments? If you tear it apart I promise I won't ban you.

^ That's actually very good. In my head I'm thinking: "What would it be like if some of the lead melodies were sung by a male/female duet?" It could also work with some of your accompaniment/lead melodies on a grand piano.

A wealth of ideas you got there. Bravo, I say. Lots of instruments could be involved.

Thanks! It's probably one of the better compositions I've written, so hopefully this might lead to a trend of some good stuff. If I was more experienced in arrangement and instrumentation, I probably would have added a whole host of different textures, but guitar/bass/drums is really all that I'm good at, plus some dabbling in piano and melody.

I'm hopefully getting out of my artist block. This is of course a MIDI file. It's still in progress and is brand new.

^ Jazz-fusion! Big smile ... Since I'm not a big fan of those jazzy passages and melodies that don't resonate with me, I will not comment on the melodic element. The rest works. Nice work on the syncopation and arrangement.

Finally  I got the art for my album. Illustrated by Shintaro Kago.
The album is late because I'm almost recording everything alone and I don't have a studio in my home. Also, I'm recording the saxophone.

^Listening to your new album now. Nice guitar tone. Really into this solo thing in the middle of V.

Check it out: here's the first thing I've ever released with me singing! It's a new-ish classical piece and an old song put together.

^ Great playing. I'm mean ... great. That reminds me of the technical playing of Bert Jansch and Lerxst. Also reminds me of me since it sounds like you were playing open chords at the end, and I've been playing around with some open chords myself. And it's nice to hear that you are actually repeating at least some parts (so that the listener doesn't feel lost) since what you are playing after the intro is actually a song.

If you really want to sing your vocal part, I'd recommend working on some vocal techniques or going up or down an octave, unless you want to keep your style.

Good job, man.

That gets me thinking: I should re-record some of my stuff before I upload it here. I hope it's going to happen tonight.

Thanks!
And great work! It's complex but still is very catchy, and I dig the singing style; it's rough but that gives it a sort of honesty that I really like

^Thank you both!
Not really familiar with either of them, except I've heard some Pentangle and I really like them. Oh wait, Lerxst is Alex Lifeson's nickname? I didn't know that. Well cool!
There is one open chord I use at the end. Those three chords that I repeat a few times there are something I may want to do something more with. I don't play much metal, but I feel like it could make a good metal riff.
Yeah, I've never been great with vocals. I'd love to get better though and I could really use some vocal coaching for a number of things. Thanks again--I really appreciate it! Good to hear you're working on some things too.

Great stuff. Reminds me of Jan Dukes de Grey. If there's one critique I could give, it would be to intersperse the intro with the rest of the song. Too, some decent vocal technique can go a long way. You don't want to oversing this stuff, but good breath control can make it a lot more comfortable to sing. Those low notes will resonate a bit more and not feel so far down in your throat.

Links aren't working on my computer. :(

It's pretty old and not really update. I'll try again when I have access to a better CPU.

^ An excellent piece. You probably received a formal jazz training somewhere. Am I right? Are you a member of a quartet or something?

I'm also checking out other videos from you, like the Free Improvisation (1).

Thanks Dayvenkirq. Yeah I'm currently in my final year at Leeds College of Music in England (Jazz course). Haiku is a tune I wrote for my trio (soundcloud.com/zeitgeist-band). I've been getting into Free Jazz quite a bit lately. It fascinates me on a level that it almost completely demolishes the boundary between composer and performer. Are you into that kind of stuff?
