He was not really loved  by millions, anymore than Diana, Princess of Wales was. Admiration/respect/hero worship/idolatry/cultish devotion, yeah, but I think love is more than that. (my opinion, don't  get out yer prams.)

Perception is truth, ergo opinion is fact.

No need for a religious discussion on this one; indeed, I do not think this was the reason the thread was started in the first place. Whether or not you agree/disagree with the Catholic church's teachings/doctrines, whether or not you consider yourself to be a practicing Christian (or a practicing member of any faith, for that matter), the fact remains that the spiritual leader of approximately 1 billion people passed away on Saturday night. I for one, will not go into any percieved shortcomings of the late John Paul II, or use this thread as a soapbox against the Catholic Church as a whole - I would just express my best wishes to all those on the forum who are feeling a sense of loss at this time, and my sincere hope they find consolation in their faith. As Maani would say - Peace.

I can't join you in this soppy,"hands across the spiritual divide" wish.

Didn't ask you to, old boy - just my own "soppy" yet sincere little input to this most contentious of threads.

Now - any of that infant's blood left?
