To be honest, this is what keeps me away from here. I've got some great ideas for more prog bands to check out and for that I'll be forever thankful, but all this petty ELP, YES, Genesis bashing is very childish. I come back every few days and the same people are slinging the same muck.

I always liked them.  I was lucky enough to see them in concert around 1979 and they blew me away.  To this day it's the best concert I've ever seen.

Why do people keep beating this dead horse till the bones are ground into dust (Even though I am contributing in said beating, I'm just curious)?

Infact, when I think of Keith Emerson I'm reminded of another rock musician with classical ambitions/delusions..

Nigel Tufnel/Christopher Guest

'I'm a big fan of Mozart and Bach, and this piece is somewhere in the middle, a kind of Mach piece'

'This is called 'Lick my love pump''

Variations of D Minor. The saddest of all keys.

The greatest keyboard player 'Ever', Keith Emerson has a new anthology CD coming out called 'HAMMER IT OUT'. Can anyone provide a link to where I can see the track listing?

Thanks!

i mainly dont like elp because of their mood, its always just so god dam joylly and happy, but not like jolly and happy yes. its too dry for my tastes if you get what im saying. the somtimes screechy, annnoying, poppy like keyboards sometimes makes me want to throw the disk away( i actually did that to my karevil, i left it in mexico on my vacation on purpose) sometimes its sounds like a low grade circus, somthimes its way to punky, somtimes its too technoe, somtimes it just plain sucks.

I still love ELP. Maybe not in the same way as my youth... 25+ years ago, but some pieces transcend time. I've learned to appreciate the chords, the notes, solos of Greg Lake, the drumming skill of Carl Palmer. Keith Emerson, however, was a bit heavy handed and his parts have not aged as well. Too much cheese, but he did have some timeless moments. Greg Lake's voice and guitar work weighs heavily on my skills. Sure, he's no Fripp/Holdsworth/McLaughlin on guitar, but he was better than the guy on the corner and that is important.

Long live ELP. Oh yeah, and Gordon Biersch or Guinness.... Beer is GOOOD!

The reson is simply becaus they where one of the most succesful prog band ever, thats why YES and ELP alweys get bached by people who think its cool to like not very succesful prog band like early Genesis and Gentle Giant. Thats the truth.

When I started this thread there was a lot of ELP 'bashing' on THIS forum. It wasn't aimed at non prog lovers who presumably wouldn't be here in the first place but actually at prog fans posting here who seemingly hate ELP.Just wanted to make that clear.Let the flaming resume!

^That was my intention in bringing it back.

Now, lemme just find those Rush vs. ELP and that ELP Fan Guidlines thread. That'll start a riot!
