Two great albums, I think I like the former more than the latter though.

If you like Neurosis, check out Callisto, or Cult of Luna!

Do Make Say Think is just one of those bands that I've kept pushing off and pushing off on every set of purchases I make. They've been on my list for quite some time, but I can honestly say that I've not heard any full albums of theirs.

Recommendation?

I'd say You, You're a History of Rust is a good start, it was the first one of theirs I heard.  It's more upbeat, less mellow, and has more energy than the other two I've heard (& Yet & Yet, Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn).

^ yeah I'd say the same thing.  I have those same three, and agree that "You, You're a History of Rust" is their most accessible/enjoyable.  The others took a little more time to grow on me.

Yep, two great bands Smile. I have Callisto's True Nature Unfolds and Cult of Luna's Somewhere Along the Highway. True Nature Unfolds is really good, but I love Somewhere Along The Highway. I should also be getting Salvation shortly.

They're not bad.  I'm not sure I can get past the emo-ish vocals though.  They also seem a bit simpler than Oceansize.  I'll keep an eye on them Thumbs%20Up

As for DO MAKE SAY THINK, I heard debut album and it left me absolutely cold. Emotions? None. Melodies? Bleak. Atmosphere? Lame

I have Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn and there's quite nothing special about. It was really boring at least for me. Ouch Which of their albums would be a good recommendation?

If Tortoise is in this prog subcategory, why the heck isn't Stereolab a part of this category? I would certainly consider them a progressive band. In fact, with their love of analog synths and keyboards, including the Moog, combined with their clear Krautrock influences, to the fact that they created a genre pushing unique sound all of their own, I consider them a very influential and progressive band. Where is the love for Stereolab? (not to mention O Rourke of Tortoise has appeared on a number of their albums).

I've not heard any Sterelab other than the split they did with NWW. Any suggestions for their best album to check out? I could be wrong but I didn't think o'rourke was a member of Tortoise. He has been around a bit tho'.

I tried. I seriously tried. But again I'm having problems, like with NEUROSIS/ ISIS/ CULT OF LUNA. But hey, I like ROSETTA and DIRGE and a whole bunch of instrumental bands!

I'm not sure if this band quite fits the post-metal mold, but it has been one of my anticipated metal albums of this year. They are Mar De Grises from Chile. I thought they might be of interest to some of the people frequenting this thread.

"This is somewhat of a surprise, the up-and-coming Finnish doom label Firebox signing a Chilean band with an original take on doom metal. Mar De Grises ("sea of grays") has produced an extraordinary debut album in The Tatterdemalion Express, mixing elements of doomdeath, ambient, funeral doom, and even progressive into a seemless and unique sound. The songs are long (averaging around eight minutes each), sometimes complex but never overly ambitious. This is one of the best doom albums in the last several years."

There are a couple of samples up on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/mardegrises2
