I would've chosen Both Equally if that'd been one of the poll options..

I find plants voice ugly at times. Anderson way better
Page is very dated. Barre is awesome |

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

The A remix is awesome. I’m loving songs for the first time and the bonus track is a ripper
Too old isn’t really a Tull album. It’s a weird soundtrack with a couple of goodies. The bonus tracks are really good though and sound alot more like Tull. It’s a pity they couldn’t find the extra tapes because there’s meant to an album worth of extras. Similar with Warchild. Another soundtrack with an album of extras that sound more like usual Tull. Stormwatch is my fave era due to the double album of strong material. Stitch in time, lyricon blues, urban apocalypse, kelpie. Plenty more. Love the middle section of the long version of Orion. Page, alongside Iommi and Blackmore created a school of making memorable riffs that all of heavier rock music is still indebted to. Proggers rarely seem to understand how "memorable" and "groove" is more important to most - not being "virtuoso" or any sort of perfectionist. Some have it, others don't. Page for sure had "it", and their best music (=most of their material) is timeless. Jethro Tull these days is more of an anachronism. A wonderful one (I mean I'm quite the fan of their early era myself), but still. They're music are mostly for old - or ageing men that are into prog, and the 1970's.

My brother is a big Led Zeppelin fan, I showed this thread to him and he didn't find it amusing
![]() Neither of these bands are in either way outdated, as they continue to speak to youth to this day (I can speak from experience)

Zeps were my fave band when I was young. Then I found 70s prog. They are in my top 20 but that’s thanks to Houses and Zep 3. Zep 2 reminds me of acdc Zep 4 a bit commercial for me. I love Good times, four sticks and Ten years gone Tulls remix collection is so good that the brilliant TAAB is the 8th best book set |

I've listened to some more Tull, inspired by this thread, just to familiarize myself a bit more, since I haven't really given them a lot of time recently, and I think the biggest thing holding me back from really getting into them is Anderson's voice. He just downright ruins some songs for me, like Cross-Eyed Mary for example. Clearly he has range and has a pretty "good" voice, compared to some other people like Plant or Ozzie, who both kind of destroyed their voices as early as the third LZ/BS albums. But the way he sings is really annoying and kind of tiring to listen to for an entire album. Plant has a busted voice for most of LZ's career, but he makes it work. Not that I can't blame anyone for finding him annoying or even a barrier for getting into LZ.
Come one now. Barre sounds very, very 70's. Page isn't any more dated - in fact, he stands out compared to his contemporaries. That doesn't mean you have to prefer Page, or that Barre is bad, but calling Page dated is just inaccurate. Personally, though, I have yet to find any Tull song where the guitar really jumps out to me, but feel free to enlighten me. At any rate, they're very different bands. I feel that with LZ, instrumental flashiness is much more at the forefront, while with JT, it's more about the songwriting/arrangements than showing off. That's fine, but I think sometimes people maybe want all their favorite artists to be geniuses on their instruments even though their strength lies more in writing/arranging.

Sorry for taking this out of context, but
-anyway, few have lost their singing voice on the level of Ian Anderson. It started going downhill mid to late 1970's and now there's literally nothing left.

^To me, the change from LZII to LZIII (and in Ozzy's case Paranoid to Master) is already quite apparent. "Destroyed" is a bit of an excaggeration I guess, but to me, they both started losing their voices pretty early on, at least within years of their debut albums, though they would deteriorate even more of course.

^It doesn't really bother me. It's just that there's a marked change early on in both Plant's and Ozzy's carreers.
