SO guys, when will Necrophagist be added?
Wink

I kid! I kid!

What's your guys favorite Opeth album? I think mine might be Still Life. I couldn't get it until recently, but I am in love with it.

Edit: YES, Still Life is my favorite.

Blackwater Park, then surprisingly Ghost Reveries, though granted it was the first I'd heard by them

I enjoy Ghost Reveries a lot actually.
Besides, it has one of my all time favorite songs by Opeth. The Grand Conjuration

Ghost Reveries is great. That's my favorite tied with Blackwater Park. Blackwater Park is the better album overall, but the bulk of Ghost Reveries is so great that in my mind they are about equal.

no offense guys, but can you start an Opeth appreciation thread?  They DO NOT belong in this thread.  They are prog metal.  Nothing tech about them.

Plus they are so yesterday/old hat.... well at least to me.  I watched the Lamentations DVD yesterday and was bored stiff....

Opeth isn't tech but they are extreme. Death Metal was extreme last time I checked anyway.

I'm sure it was such a hassle sifting through a whole half-page of Opeth discussion just now. Note that this is the "tech/extreme prog metal" thread. Nothing may be "tech" about Opeth, but they qualify as "extreme" and are listed in this subgenre on the ol' Archives. Ergo, discussion of Opeth is fair game. I don't see the harm.

No offense, but lighten up. It's bad enough this place has like 50 sub genres. There should be JUST prog metal.....none of this extreme prog and technical metal BS.

Plus Opeth are prog metal, as you said so sorry that they are not specifically "extreme prog metal" and sorry you think there are "so yesterday" but I like them. So either comment about them (good or bad) or KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! I dont want to hear "they dont belong here" this is a tech/extreme prog thread. Opeth is prog metal, I'd say they're pretty extreme so shut it. I am so sick of this place being so constrained and black and white anyway.....

So...what do you guys think of Watershed? I like it, and at first I LOVED it...but as time has gone on it's not as amazing as I first thought. Or is this yet another PA thread I'm going to have to avoid?
EDIT: Maybe that was over the top... but I'm not changing it.

^Watershed has 3 AMAZING songs: Heir Apparent, The Lotus Eater, and Hessian Peel. The other songs are mediocre and borderline cheesy at times. My opinion of it wasn't too high to begin with but it definitely hasn't grown on me at all.

Real mature!  real mature.... I like how you say "no offense" (like I did), but then proceed to fly off the handle.  My post was nothing of the sort.  I still don't think they belong here.... and I have a right to my two cents.... looks like I will be ignoring this thread from now on; you folks can't even play nice.... and you are LIGHTYEARS behind my knowledge of all things tech metal.... so don't even front.....  TongueLOL

the ONLY thing that makes them extreme is the vocals. (monotone growled vocals hardly constitute as extreme in my book- but I have been into this style for over 15 years... so it's old news)  Double bass drumming and fast tempos are not extreme and have been utilized since back in the days of thrash.  If you want extreme, go check out Gnaw Their Tongues and (Also a lot of black metal or Psychofagist... with extreme dissonance and texture and insane/deranged vocals)then tell me Opeth are extreme....   PUHLEASE!  Confused

Well at least you noticed that much! Most people wouldn't have picked that up.
But yes, as you can probably gather, I really didn't give a hoot if I insulted you.
And ironic.....the one time I lose it on this site and I get blasted when we have.....well certain people... that are so rude and douchey I want to punch the computer screen.

But I've stopped caring, this site has gone to hell anyway and I feel bad limiting myself to just for fun but whenever I venture out I am frustrated to no end.
And I know you're joking....but don't even question me on tech metal man...Wink

^ I've always thought extreme metal was just sort of a blanket term for metal with harsh vocals.

Now to bring some maturity into this thread and end this pointless banter....

I bought "Sol Niger Within" recently. I could not find this thing for the life of me and had to resort to Amazon....but hey perfect condition and considering how rare it is, not to pricey at all.
Can't wait.
