I'm not going to go through this 62-page thread (blame me?) so forgive me if this has been discused before.

I REALLY enjoy such bands as Fall of Troy and Horse the Band (and the like).  I was wondering if they fall under this category and might be discussed in this thread?  If not, I will start my own thread (unless there is one suiting?) because it seems they are very underappreciated on this site.  And for the record, I don't think any arguments that they are not prog would stand up at all because if you actually listen to them they are some of the most progressive stuff I have heard (albeit unique).  But let the arguments come

Second this.. I found a used copy last year and I've really enjoyed the album.  Been meaning to research their current projects, but haven't done so yet.

Very surprised this thread has sunk to page 7 of this section.

Anyway....

Check out this band called Vortice, they kinda remind me of Meshuggah.

Their album "Human Engine" is superb and I highly recommend it.

Good luck finding Sol Niger Within.  As far as I know, it is out of print.  I was lucky to find mine tucked away in a shop going out of business over five years ago!

There hasn´t been much interest in the last couple of weeks, but hopefully that´s come to an end nowTongue. Anyone´s listened to this album yet?:

Tholus - Constant

I found it for $12 through GEM. Really interested progressive death metal album. Dave Murray - Drums, Vocals (Estradasphere, Sculptured, Deserts of Traun. All three acts are already present on PA) is involved in the project.

Not only is Dave Murray a member, but also Wally Scharold (and Rob Pumpelly) of miRthkon (awesome heavy RIO project):  http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4665

I am checking this out for SURE!  miRthkon's latest album "Vehicle" is recommended for all metalheads.... if you can deal with complex guitar rhythms and woodwinds and other exotic instruments in a metal frame, check them out!

Hate to see this thread get low, but I still have stuff to discuss. I picked up Alaska by BTBAM lately. I haven't seen much discussion on this album, what do most people think of it? I think it's great and has some wonderful melodic parts, though compared to the masterpiece that Colors is it's just alright. Anybody else?

^ Yup!

Holy f*cking sh*t! Last night I listened to Deathspell Omega's Chaining the Katechon for the first time in maybe 6 months. HOLY F*CKING SH*T!!! That piece of music is just... awwwwwwww... it's just... amazing! It was written by God and sponsered by Satan! Why it's not as famous as Mozart's compositions I don't understand because it as the same level if not greater! There's a reason why it has a perfect rating on this site (albiet only two ratings...)!

I still need to get more DSO stuff. You do nothing but praise them, so either they're worth at least a listen or you're just a crazy obsessive fanboy, and god knows we have very few of those on this site.Wink

In any event, the progressive/avant-garde black metal genre has been growing on me for quite a while and need more stuff of that kind.

I am currently listening to the new Suffocation album. This is far from being innovating music but this sounds incredibly cathartic and should appeal to prog afficionados.

Yeah but it's a fairly obscure band to be an obsessed fanboy about so there has to be SOME reason why I gravitate towards this particular group... Wink

Evening folks

I have one quick question...

Is the latest Riverside album (Anno Domini High Definition) worth a buy for a non-prog metal fan?

I've heard nothing but great things about this album, but I generally steer clear of metal.

Thankyou in advance
-Joel.
