I loved Neil On Impression, but didn't liked Johnnytwentythree at all.

I gotta agree. I just hope NOI gets the sufficient support to keep making music.

Ha you sure like The Pirate Ship Quintet . Maybe I should give J23 another spin and listen to what I'm missing here.

NOI will probably get a 3.5 from me, while J23 and The pirateship quintet will probably get a 4. Reveiwing epic post rock is so hard though. As a reviewer I like to familiarize myself with almost every note of the album, but sometimes it's hard to get all the way through a twenty minuete epic!

I haven't been reviewing too much lately...but if you check Post-Metal genre page, you'll discover that all recent reviews are mine
Special kudos to OMEGA MASSIF and DAY WITHOUT DAWN. I'm a huge fan of both recently

I recently added DWD's EP. Nice album, not as good as Understanding Consequences thought, and the quality ain't the best.

One of my favorites of last year. They should be coming out with a new album this summer.

I'm super ADD and for some odd reason, I can listen to a twenty minute epic thats constantly adding new ideas better than a 4 min. radio single. I think some Post-Rock bands are really perfect for people with ADD. Some tend to drone/drag on the same idea and not vary much, but the ones that do keep changing rhythms/riffs and keep adding/removing layers are just perfect. Neil On Impression are the best example of this that i can think of. There's not much repetition so i don't get bored or feel like the song/album is dragging on. Explosions in the Sky are good at this as well. AND both of those bands have alot of energy in their songs (more so NOI, i attribute this to the drummer).

Agreed. But just because the song is 4 minutes long dosen't mean that it's intended to be radio single. Take for example Khoma (Post Metal) in which most of the songs are in between the 4 to 5 minutes long, and I don't think there intended to be radio singles. In the mean while go check out The Pirate Ship Quintet. I can assure it will not bore you.

I also think it should be noted that I like NOI's initial release "For A New Grammar Of Feelings" better than "A Perfect Tango". I think that fits their sound better (less strings, more guitar/bass/drums/piano). I really enjoy their drummer, he's nothing spectacular but I just like his style...not quite as much as Mark Heron (Oceansize) though. Mark is unreachable for me. He's on his own plateau jammin out in 11/8 or something weird...
And thanks for the tip, I will check them out soon.
Any other post-rock bands with math-rock tendencies that have exceptional drummers? Especially ones that play in odd time-signatures.

I think Toe's New Sentimentality it's sort of in between these two genres and also 65days of static. But if you're looking for post rock with great drummers check out Red Sparowes first album At the Soundless Dawn and If these trees could talk self titled album.

Good drummers in post rock? Well as you may very well know, technical skill and flashiness isnt needed, so you might want to go looking for the math rock post rock blend of bands. Like Russian circles, 65daysofstatic, and Tera Melos.

Just reviewed the Pax Cecilias debut album, Nouveou. I really wished I could give it a four, but it jut barely didnt make the cut.
