there is an incredibly stark difference between Dirge's drone and Sunn 0)))'s drone, in that the latter's is ONLY drone, not even post metal....Dirge use it within the confines of their songs, Sunn 0))) use it AS their songs

^ That sounds pretty scary, I found Dirges Drone sessions too drawn out, and a litttle obnoxious. Are Sun O)))'s songs shorter? Either way, I'll adress them with an open mind.

a Sunn O))) song can run from 5 minutes to 48 minutes....and they're all summed up in a similar manner:

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think of Sunn0))) as more of a performance art piece than an actual band.
Their whole shtick is like metal therapy... i've heard that a Sunn0))) concert is the ultimate headache cure.

Horses of the Sky is officially mine and . . . what am i listening to?! I think i like it but its such a surprising CD and nothing like GY!BE really. Efrim's vocals aren't too bad and are actually quite charming and warm.

EDIT - Haven't seen them mentioned yet, but the band Shora from switzerland sounds pretty cool and from what ive heard on their myspace i like it. Anyone heard a full release?

It's one of the most addicting albums in existence.

What are CoL first two albums like? I love somewhere along the highway, but Salvation is a bit overated. Apparently the beyond is pretty good, but I want to hear what you experts think.

Well, Somewhere Along the Highway is probably their most realised album they've released, but both their s/t and Beyond are solid albums. Respectively better than Salvation. These earlier albums are not quite as free and flowing as their latest, and take a little step back in regards to the post-rock influence,  it's clearly there but not as pronounced. Their first album is a probably a little more hardcore influence, I think this more in ferocity of the album than anything else, so not a detractor. I listen to the s/t more so, but The Beyond  offers a more varied platter and continues to show the bands growing confidence to progressive forwards.

Neil on Impression.

Post-rock doesn't get much better than that for me.  I wish they had more music released!

I loved Neil On Impression, but didn't liked Johnnytwentythree at all. Nothing really special about in my opinion. Prefer listening to NoI.
