I agree. Their best and most talented line-up. The album sounds really raw.
My favorite though is Waterfall Cities...

Every few weeks I've slowly been tracking down one at a time the Ozrics albums I don't currently have, so it was nice to get back to this one! I'd actually forgotten how consistently good it was.

`Waterfall Cities' was the first one I ever heard, actually due to Tom Ozric who replied just below your initial message! He lived in Melbourne too at the time and brought his LP of it around, and I loved what I heard. I bought the CD of that one first, then picked up `Erpland' and `Strangeitude' soon after, nowadays I've got most of them except for the few stray ones I'm rounding up. I'm not a massive fan of their shreddy 80's metal kind of electric guitar sound they sometimes have, so maybe that's why I liked `Arborescence' a bit more, because the guitar was a little more restrained overall?

Good score with that, Tom! I don't think I would have recognized what it was at that time, so chances are I went right past it if it was there at the same time! Antiquarian Records, yes! I'm sure the guy that owned that is the one who organises the Box Hill record fairs nowadays. Although I have to admit I don't often find too many interesting titles in his crates at the Fairs these days.

I need the summer and long bicycle rides to play artists like Harmonium and other symphonic rock and folk music.
In the winter I play mostly poprock and neoprog.

It's pretty good, "Back To Heldon" is a great track. I think I like Allez Teia more, though. Heldon's aesthetic sounds kind of awkward to me sometimes, for some reason, but I really do like their music.

It's been a while since I last heard them but I think I prefered "Allez Teia" as well (half KC and half TD if I remember correctly). You're right about their aesthetic, I'm not often in the mood for their music but really enjoy it when I am. I noticed the other day that all the albums are available on Cuneiform Records' Bandcamp, they were not easily streamable not long ago.

Renaissance - 'Turn of the Cards': Musically one of their best, love "Things I Don't Understand" and "Black Flame". My only issue is that Annie is mixed a bit too upfront...let the music shine a bit more 'tis all.

Renaissance - 'Novella': You can't mess with the "Midas Man", but on the whole it's a bit overboard for my tastes. It's 'olden day' for sure, well performed and yet I worry about catching a plague while listening.

Renaissance - 'Camera Camera': So I put this on ready to tear it too bits knowing it would be crap. Except...except...err...this new wave with some prog thrown in is actually...um..fun. "Faeries" is so cute...

Elvis Costello - 'This Year's Model': Certainly seems to be the man's most acclaimed work, and it's good...and yet I find the albums immediately before and after it much better. Solid stuff, but I dig it when he's a bit quirky too.

Pentacle - La Clef Des Songes - I was SUPER surprised to find a copy of this at the local record store (which is now my favourite record store ever). I was really tempted to pick it up since I'd seen it get rave reviews on the site, and what are the odds of ever coming across it again? But then my conscience kicked in and I decided to give it a try on youtube first to see if it really was worthwhile. And from my inaugural listen, I can safely say that I'll be right back there on the weekend with La Clef Des Songes in my hand walking out the door! Great symphonic prog with some fine bluesy guitar work. Not groundbreaking stuff, but still enticing enough to make me want to head halfway across town to pick it up.

Mate, PLEASE tell me you rang the store and asked them to hold it for you?! You'll likely never come across it again, and I think it is an utterly essential symphonic album. I found it for $10 in an Australian store quite a while back (probably about twenty years ago now), at the time I didn't actually know what it was but I instantly recognised the name of the Ange frontman on the back cover (plus there was also THAT front cover!), so I simply blind-bought it.

It was sadly so cheap because someone had written on the front cover in thick black pen `File under French Section' (I'm assuming it therefore came from a radio host/DJ's library at some point?), but it played beautifully. I also picked up several prog-folk Malicorne albums at the same time with the same writing on the front, so obviously all from the same collection.

I have extra fond memories of the Pentacle one because I was back living at home briefly when I got it, and as I was playing it my Mother stuck her head in the door and said `What a wonderful singer that group has!', and of course she was right. I'll treasure that album forever and always think of that memory when she's gone.

Fear not, for I am now the proud new owner of Pentacle's La Clef Des Songes! Also picked up a copy of Prologue by Renaissance. How fortunate for me that prog is as good as dead in this part of the world; I've got dibs on all the prime pickings!

Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

King Crimson - In The Court of The Crimson King - A fitting Remembrance Day album; very sombre. I took the liberty of rewriting my review of it, too, since I wasn't satisfied with how little detail I had before.

Quella Vecchia Locanda - Quella Vecchia Locanda - One of my RPI favourites! Brimming with energy, and the vast amount of ideas and emotions these guys pack into such a short album is incredible. It's like the sonic equivalent of a full feature length film in 33 minutes!

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Street Survivors - Three for three awesome albums from shuffle tonight! This one really livened the mood after the last two, which are generally quite tragic. I consider this to be the best Skynyrd album. All killer, no filler, and Steve Gaines is the best guitarist to ever play in the group (not to disrespect Allen, Gary, or Ed; they're also phenomenal), and a great songwriter to boot. Love the dynamic that Steve and Ronnie have here, singing and playing; it's a shame that we never got to hear more music from them after this.

Sun Araw - Belomancie This is one of the albums, which Pierre (hellogoodbye) revealed over at one of his four little gems threads. The music is an odd mixture of minimal techno, Berlin School, maybe even some dub, with a very vintage sound. Really nice album, the keyboards are really great-sounding.

Soft Machine - Alive in Paris 1970 I'm completing a review on this concert, which you will be likely to be able to read tomorrow, when I correct and edit everything. All I can say so far is, it's one of my favorite Soft Machine recordings.

Can - Soundtracks Really like this album. Just before Can got really weird and experimental with Tago Mago, but just when their sound went far beyond what anyone was doing at that time. "Mother Sky" is obviously a favorite, but the shorter songs are also great and very atmospheric, almost noir-like, I'd say.
