I've only got a couple of Rush albums and every King Crimson studio.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Regardless of what you may label yourself as, your recent posts in here are prime examples of Rush fanboyism. And yes I agree there's a reason they are labeled "the holy trinity', but that reason is simply because Rush fanboys act in the way that they do. There's nothing in particular that makes Rush objectively better than any other prog band.

^Ironically, I'm pretty sure Rush was labelled "the holy trinity" by a critic who was ridiculing fans' enthusiasm for the band, comparing it to religious adoration.  Seems Rush fans have adopted the term.  Kind of a "yankee doodle" scenario there.  (there's only one Holy Trinity though, and it's not Rush)

The fact that this is a "better" poll rather than a "favorite" poll makes the decision a little closer for me (Rush is my favorite band by a long shot) but I'm still going to go with Rush here.  They're both great, but I feel like Rush is a bit more organic and emotional.

I hate Rush and almost love King Crimson. I don't like everything they did - nor can I tolerate all of it, but there's not a single sound Rush ever made that excited me as much as 21st Century Schizoid man or Fallen Angel.

Love Rush more than KC. Both are great bands though.

Hey! Rush is in the RRHOF now!

^ Are you sure you hate Rush instead of just disliking them? Sounds a little strong.

Is there a difference?  Both are the antonyms of like so maybe we just overreact to the word hate because it's associated with things like jihad.

Back in St.-Peter's we were told that in English "to hate" means "to abhor something as if experiencing something offensive" and "to dislike" means "to be unable to find anything you like but still probably thinking constructively about the issue". Or was I just screwed over there?

They both basically suggest a loathing or aversion to something, so it's equally strong either way.  If you are unable to find anything to like about it, you neither like nor dislike it, you are simply neutral or indifferent to it.  In other words, you don't yet have an opinion on it.  So I have to say I am not too sure about the definition of dislike you just cited, I certainly don't agree with it.

^ Then I was definitely screwed (unless I automatically assumed something) and I have to change some things around in my vocabulary.
