^^Yep gonna go with Velvet Underground as well. Perhaps one of the most progressive outfits from around 66. Viola, tribal drumming from a girl, who stood upright when playing. Add to that a guy who was an anti-singer and a chanteuse on heroin and you´ve got a wonderful and very different concoction.

Wu-tang Clan and most of their solo records, at least from the mid 90s. As a matter of fact, I like most of the old school hip hop from that period of time.
The Orb, Prodigy, Future sound of London, Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor and a sh*tload of dance/trance/goa/ambient artists.
Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
Nearly everything that came out of Motown.
Funkadelic, James Brown, Parliament, Grodeck Whipperjenny, all kinds of funk gems.
Edith Piaf.
The Clash, Television, The fall, Gary Numan, well a LOT of Punk and the followers like Joy Division and Ultravox.
Come to think of it, the more I read on this site, the more I´m inclined to think, that outside disco (which I occasionally enjoy - if there´s women about...) pretty much everything goes. Nearly everyone here has extremely eclectic tastes, which I sincerely applaud. Music builds bridges and tears others down.

I don't know about other prog fans "hating", but my favourite non prog is as follows:
1. The Levellers, perhaps one of the finest rock bands to emerge from the 1980's.
2. The Tansads. Nobody's ever heard of them, but go to you Tube to see my favourite band outside of prog. A great folk punk band from the same wave as The Levellers, their reunion gig in St Helens was one of the greatest I have been to. If you can, get Flock.
3. Fleetwood Mac. Especially Christine McVie compositions. That photograph of her on the live album from the Tusk tour is the most hauntingly beautiful I have ever seen.
4. Check out Lindsey Buckingham's last solo album, Gift Of Screws. A work of genius.
5. The Smiths. Because it's Moz and Marr.
6. Morrissey. Because it's Moz.
7. Motorhead. The first band I saw live.
8. Alice Cooper. For On The Inside, an absolute masterpiece which should be on this site if there were any justice.
9. Simon & Garfunkel. Essential for a happy and contented life.
10. Housemartins. Because it's Heaton.
11. The Beautiful South. Because it's Heaton.
12. Dire Straits. Prior to Brothers In Arms they were a great rock band.
13. Gene. Because it's Roz, and they were far more than mere Smiths clones.
14. Joni Mitchell. Sensuous, exceptionally talented, an essential artist of the 20th century.
15. Judie Tzuke. Bully & Mother from Secret Agent give me goosebumps, and the rest ain't half bad, either.

I really hate the attitude some proggers have of trying to find something that's 'prog' about everything they listen to. Music is Music, life wouldn't be complete without it, whether it's progressive or not

I would put them alongside The manics - good stuff when in the mood, but nothing spectacular. Now, Gorky's Zygotic Monkeys - that's a different proposition!

Can't think of many off the top of my head, sure they're there, but for one...how do other proggers feel about The Police? Lots of great albums by them.

The Police were a great band and one of the best to come out of the New Wave. Even their last, which is not so well received these days, has wonderful songs. One of the last popular rock bands who combined terrific chops and great songwriting with pop appeal.
The Kinks. Think about it. Could you imagine playing "Wonderboy" in front of the average person? or even a intense follower of prog? The Kinks always made a huge percentage of people cringe. It's pathetic because from the late 60's through the 70's they developed that popular reputation for being a love/hate band.
