Country is one of the most hated genre because everyone just bandwagons and can't form their own opinions.

There are those that like and love all of these bands or their periods, but at least within there is also a lot of dislike for all of these bands too.

I'm with you on 80s Yes. Big Generator even more than 90125.

But liking DT, ELP and Rush is nowhere near a sacrilege here, unless we're talking about the hipster corners of PA, like the Shred.

Prog fans hate Arcade Fire? Do they hear what they listen to?

Anyways, I'm in love with Guided By Voices/Robert Pollard and various other lo-fi cult artists such as Daniel Johnston. Prog fans generally seem to hate no production stuff.

I too like Arcade Fire and Coldplay and pretty much every indie band that prog fans hate. I just think it's good stuff.

I suppose some extreme metal bands that isn't usually connected with prog  (Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Napalm Death, Nasum, etc.).  Maybe some non-fusion jazz artists, but I'd think prog fans are open to different jazz forms.

This is insane! LOL   My God...I can't believe proggers would dislike the first ELO titled "No Answer". I mean of course I do believe it.....but why? It's a little BEATLES influenced, however there are pieces on there which remind me of Gentle Giant and along with the spoken word of Roy Wood.....it's a bizzare album for sure. This is truly a new one on me.

My main entries would be free jazz/noise, but nobody cares about those, so I guess ATDI and The Paper Chase.

Too late, extreme metal has now a solid following on PA. It hasn't always been like that though.

You must have forgotten because I have absolutely had arguments with people about whether avant-garde music is actually music (the most recent I can recall is with http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=72195" rel="nofollow - TheClosing , and you even posted http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68348&PID=3694589#3694589" rel="nofollow - when I for some reason got annoyed enough to make a long post to people who probably didn't even read it). I think the vast majority of prog fans are not free jazz fans, but that's because they've probably never heard of it as much as anything else (which is why I said nobody cares).

You're right, I remember those debates. I never really read them, especially since I knew my side of the debate was in good hands (yours), but my impression was that those debates are most about the nature of music and avantgarde music rather than about free jazz in particular.

Not gonna lie, I sorta like Green Day's American Idiot album. Embarrassed I used to REALLY like it back when it came out, but I still moderately enjoy it from time to time. I just can't stand the vocals. Dead

I don't think so. While you won't find contempt for classic rock here like you would at some other forums, there have only been 6 threads about them since the beginning of the site, and only the first one in 2007 made it to 2 pages.

Well, the majority of the people who came from Rush, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, t he classic rock side of prog.

And let me add Dr. Steel to my list, probably the closest thing I will ever like to hip-hop. But his innovation makes me wonder if he's "Progressive"

Pop:  ABBA, Prince, Michael Jackson (a little less than these two, though)

Rock: U2 (not so sure people HATE it here), Television, Scorpions, Judas Priest (again, hate is probably not the right word but general disdain perhaps), Alice in Chains

I also like a lot of heavy-duty extreme metal, the real deal and not just whatever part of it gets called prog-metal.

There aren't many non prog artists I like. Al Stewart and The Tubes are the two thats spring to mind but I doubt that many here actually hate these two!

I did have a liking for 'new age' music in the 80's which does seem to 'inspire' plenty of negative comments!

He technically helped, I don't get why you're winking. With his "electric" albums he proved that rock songs could have poetic lyrics, something that wasn't even thought possible until then and this definitely expanded the boundaries of rock music. This is my opinion, anyways.

But...Bob Dylan invented progressive rock.  Wink

He technically helped, I don't get why you're winking. With his "electric" albums he proved that rock songs could have poetic lyrics, something that wasn't even thought possible until then and this definitely expanded the boundaries of rock music. This is my opinion, anyways.

Yes, i used to say that Bob Dylan, as a lyricist, is for prog as Elvis Costello, as a lyricist, is for modern pop music.

Really... any band not included on this site could qualify as something prog fans hate (except Yellow Magic Orchestra and Tori Amos)

I haven't seen any haters. There are plenty of people who don't care about him or dislike him, but there's no vitriol for him like AC/DC or Korn.

Progressive metal and space rock in general, the list of bands is too big for me to put the in one post alone and I'm not going to wall-text this.

Plus Robert Fripp collaborated with Hall on what became Exposure/Sacred Songs (which surprised the Prog world at the time but it now seems clear there is more substance to Hall & Oates than meets the casual eye)

I like Morrison's way of singing.
In my opinion, their best song is "The End" or "L.A.Woman" OR "Break on Through", check those out if you haven't ^^

^ Shure i did. "The end" is, definitivily, their less worst track.

I love the Doors, though english is not my native language, it's the music that clicked on me at first times ( in the late sixties) not only MORRISON character and even if the tracks are short, Strange days, for instance has some progy times

I would imagine that a lot of prog fans would dislike most electronic dance music. And I am quite a big fan of some of it, in particular 1st and 2nd wave Detroit Techno.

Also certain forms of indie rock that I listen to.

Since they haven't been mentioned, I'm gonna go with The Velvet Underground.
