hmmm, i got nothing on my page... oh well....
yeah igor gave me a copy a while back and i never really listened to it, but when i went out and bought like 4 or 5 albums a few weeks ago i picked it up and its been on constantly. they are pretty original but i dont think they break too much new ground. It sounds really good though and they pull it off beautifully, so im not complaining. |

So, I'm listening to Talk Talk's spirit of Eden, and I'm just in awe of how good this album really is. So I go to their last fm. page, and they're biggest tags are synth pop, 80's, and post rock.
That got me thinking, is talk talk a post rock band? If not they're definately an influence, with they're minimal sound, and dense atmospheres. Either way, recomended to all post rock fans! Edited by schizoid_man77 - March 12 2008 at 00:48 |

Dude...Talk Talk are awesome.A great pop band that totally turned into something else altogether.
The Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are really good, and I think they are early examples of post rock.
It's weird you commented on Talk Talk,I just bought their album The Colour of Spring yesterday.
Cue eerie Twilight Zone music..........

TALK TALK is my second top listened band on LastFM (after my own ). I absolutely adore all albums of them, even poppy ones, please, check my reviews! I'm especially proud of Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock ones!
as for recent discoveries - I really liked MONO debut EP and OMEGA MASSIF's "Kalt" EP (now purchasing the album!) and checked new DATURAH, which is also good. I'll try to give a spin to new GREGOR SAMSA songs on their MySpace Also a friend o'mine promised to share YEAR OF NO LIGHT "Nord" with me, are they worthy? Nord is a great blend of Cult of luna, and Neurosis' kind of post metal, but I warn you it's very non melodic, at least the songs with vocals are.
As the album progresses it just gets better, the first ouple of songs really arent that good, but the last few are gems. Check out my review for details.

Nord is a very good album and I completely agree with the comments above. It's well-worth checking out, I think it's like a more mature Agalloch without raspy vocals and strong undertones of the Neurosican stable. I have it on a shuffle playlist, and every time it comes up I think - this is really great, a real grower. Wish there was more of their stuff available.

nord sounded REALLY sludgy and a typical posty from what ive heard. If you liked neurosis then i think you'll enjoy them.

it might be a pun on "merman" - the male form of "mermaid" - substituting Myrrh, ie, one of the gifts to Jesus.
*doesn't know the song* ;P |

Do any of you Hydra-Heads like Oxbow? I think they deserve a place on this site... it looks like MusicforSpeeding once recommended the band from a noise direction but they have a post-metal appeal, too, along with a Nick Cave-ness which is why I like them. o:) Edited by laplace - March 14 2008 at 20:34 |
