Jim Thome just hit a solo home run to lead off the 7th inning to give the White Sox a 1 - 0 lead over the Twins in the tiebreaker game. How amazing is it that the score was 0 - 0 at Cellular Field in the 7th inning of a win or go home game?
Edit: And I must say that it is nice to see Thome hit a home run off of a pitcher not wearing the Olde English D. I believe that his career home runs against the Tigers is the most that any active player has against any team.

And the Sox win 1 - 0. What a way to end the season for the Twinkies. They said this is the first time in 102 years that both Chicago teams are in the playoffs.

And Baseball is hoping that only one of those two make it to the WS otherwise both coasts of America will not care about it.

I'm sure since there are no New York teams the baseball executives are praying for the Los Angeles Angels versus the Chicago Cubs; but they would be alright with the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Chicago White Sox too. That way they get the two largest non-New York markets. I suspect that the Cubs would be the bigger draw, and the Cubs versus the Red Sox would probably make them happy too.

Hope it lasts.

That was a nail-biting 9th inning for the Phillies, I'm just glad they held on for the win. Great game by Cole Hamels.

Sure was, typical Lidge too, he likes to make it interesting. Little concerned about it as the playoffs progress.

Lidge has yet to blow one all year. With that slider, I wouldn't worry about it.
Quite a pitchers duel in Anaheim. Lester seems to be dealing with some butterflies, as he hasn't really had as much control as he usually does. Lackey is looking great as usual, I can't get enough of that slider.

Ok so now we know Manny can hit the ball off the ground into the bleachers. Unbelievable what that guy can do. Most guys would pop out to second on that kind of a swing.

Does seem silly to complain when the guy's been perfect - though I think he really lucked out in the game where they clinched the division; bases loaded w/ 1 out and the guy grounds into a double play. Just spoiled from the Rivera years where there wasn't even a question in the 9th - the game was over.

Although now that I recall, Wetteland gave the fans plenty of heartburn in 96, but it all worked out in the end.

I smell a sweep on the Dodgers front. Zambrano hasn't had anything since that no-hitter; it was absolutely idiotic to leave him in for 110 pitches in his first outing after an injury. Harden looked pretty bad in his last regular season start, only hitting about 90 on his fastball and having no control at all where it was going. Meanwhile, Chad Billingsley has been one of the best in the NL since May, and Kuroda has been a great late-rotation guy.

Billingsley was the rock for the staff this year even if his record doesn't show it. He kept the Dodgers in many games while they struggled offensively. I swear this is not the same team who started the season. Can you imagine a bench that has Jeff Kent and Nomar? How about Greg Maddox coming out the bullpen last night? Torre has a lot of weapons at his disposal with Furrcal and Saito back.

oh yeah... I do smell a Dodgers sweep as well.
Thankfully I was pretty tipsy on my 2nd Sam Adams when I saw Manny hit that 'tee shot' into the bleachers. Otherwise... I would have wished I HAD been hahaha. wow...
and let's go Rays... yes.. I am a bandwagon fan... since my beloved Tigers went into the toilet this year.
