Yea, also another bad result for Kubica...Cry

And THIS explains it all!
Apparently Max Mosley's father was head of a British Fascist party!?

Yea, all that stuff you said is kind of what I gathered. Ah well, I was kind of depressed about a split but maybe it will be good? Hopefully the new series will be better. And I have no doubt F1 will be the one to die, as you said this new series will have ALL the big names of the sport, and almost all the names.

Just a question for y'all: Do any of you think the 2005 USGP really was an FIA attempt to kill the USGP?
And on that note, is there any chance of this new series returning to the US?
I found it amazing that when I finally get some friends together willing to go out to Indy the US got nixed fron the schedule.  Angry

Yikes, a lot for me to reply to today.

2005 was a result of Michelin having made a poor tyre that couldnt handle the specific forces in the banked turn (the flexing in the sidewall was actaully part of the tyres mechanism for creating grip, but went way past that and into self destruction). After that it was a case of nobody willing to compromise. Ferrari and Bridgestone didnt want a chicane put into the track because as far as they were concerned they had done their job properly and didnt want to be possibly penalised to let the other race and the FIA said it wasnt their problem. They all screwed up that weekend.

I was talking to some people about F1 and they were raging at this guy, one actually saying he was WORSE than Max Mosley. So, while it came to a boil now, I guess the FIA has never really been liked....
I don't know though, they all seemed to be hardcore Senna fans so they may have just been pissed that he "fixed" races for Prost

Before my time as well, but from what I can gather he made poor decisions on a whim and also supported French drivers to the point that he would slightly penalise others in specific situations, though nothing major the Prost/Senna thing doesnt count IMO. He was meddling, but never to the degree that Max is now and has never pushed the teams so hard so that they actually start a serious brakeaway championship (again, the Mosely/Ecclestone led brakeaway of the early 80's doesnt count because they only had the money for one race and it was just a big bluff that worked, which isnt the case now).

Will Button EVER win his home GP?
Anyway, I have liked Vettel since he entered and he is continuing to showcase his skill. Dominating race!
Congrats to Webber and Rubino for their podium finishes.

With a 16th place finish Hami is now in 11th place, with only 9 points. As quickly as he exploded on the British is how is now kicked aside for the vet Button!!

On a different note: I was unaware India was on the 2011 schedule. Hmmm......the "BRIC" countries are the fastest growing, upcoming economies and what races recently, (or will be getting) a grand prix? China and India. With Russia in the talks for getting one.
Also Singapore and especially Dubai are 2 cities growing extremely quickly, becoing major centers......
While Europe is losing tracks and even grand prix's and North America now has NONE.
I guess that's progress for ya....

I thought there was some great racing down the order, particularly from Alonso and Hamilton.

India and Russia have both been on and off the calander for the last 10 years or so, I'll believe their race when I see it.

As far as I know, the Dubai Autodrome owners have no intention to atract F1 despite it being a rather good track.

His own fault this time I feel, he shouldnt have been weaving infront of Bourdais like that when going much slower. Being given 1 stop strategies like that, though, means he's going to be on a hiding to nothing during the races which cant be fun.

First, the '05 USGP. Yea, I knew all that, just wondering if anyone believed the "Indygate" theory and it was the FIA's attempt to kill F1 in the US. I don't buy it, and agree with you it was just everyone's fault and no will to compromise.
Although if I remember correctly all the tire problems happened on one team. And Indy never had problems before....so maybe that team was just off and was putting more load on the tires? Ah well, water way under the bridge.

As for the future I thought Dubai was on the schedule for this season? As well as 2010 and '11 (with India as well in '11).
I guess I'm just a tradionalist non-European European...I'm all for expanding the sport especially considering so many countries are developing, but  I hop the base isn't sacraficed. I would expand the season to 20 races, enough for the tradtional races and newer tracks. Also, no more Spain having 2...Cataluntya is dull. Scrap it, replace with Valencia. The European GP should rotate bewteen various places. But hey....if I was the President of the FIA then I guess I could do that LOL

Anyway, I really was surprised to read Mosley's dad was head of a British fascist party. Maybe explains his dominance and unwillingess to compromise!

Ah yes, Oswald Moseley...

The Dubai GP is set for the last race of the season... unless the track isn't ready, then Canada may get it instead.

Its not Dubai, its Abu Dhabi, one of the other Emirets that has the GP.

Toyota were the only team to suffer failures at Indy (one on each car I think) but I saw close ups on the McLaren through the banking showing a huge amount of flex in the outside tyre wall of the left hand tyres. It was like an orang or a grapefruit wa bulging out of there, very scary when you think they'e doing 200mph. Michelin reckoned nobody was going more than 10 to 15 laps on those tyres, and Toyota probably less. That year tyres had to last a hole race so I'm guessing there was a change in side wall construction to allow them to work well as well as be durable.

Maybe it was also something with Indy. A few years later NASCAR did have that race where they could only 15 laps at a time because tire wear was so bad.

^The NASCAR problem came from it being a diamond ground track surface being exceptionally abrasive and the cars weigh the best part of 2 tons, a combination that led to rediculus levels of tyre were, which they might just have got over.

That's one reason that Sebring can never hold the USGP, (talking hypothetically now)
I think it's an awesome track and challenging but it's extremely abrasive, and bumpy.
They like it that way, they purposely left most of the track untouched. Some parts of the "track" are actually concrete airfields from WW2.

So that wouldn't fly, they'd have to resurface the track which I wouldn't like.

Only reason I bring all this up is because supposedly the USGP is too return in 2010. It's just talk so who knows but I really hope so. No word at all about Indy. If not I'm not sure what other track there is.
I think Watkins Glen would be too fast, as well as Road America.
I love LaGuna Seca but again I don't know if it would meet F1 standards. Not sure what they even are.
Road Atlanta is a nice one as well.

I'm just being fanciful of course, I don't see US coming back.

To hold F1 the circuits need to hold a Grade 1 track liscence, and I bleive Indy is the only track in America that has one. The rest are either too short to bother with or need a huge upgrade in safty standards.

Ah well, we got on quite a tangent.

The British GP didn't really do much for me. Though I was glad to see the young german lad win. Speaking of which can't wait for the next one. Viva la Deutschland!

*My Spanish and German teachers are losing their heads right now* LOL

I'm hoping Hulkenberger (sp.) gets a seat in the future.  His record in lower levels is excellent and it would be interesting to see how he does at F1.

The same with Gary Paffett.

I don't know much about lower series. In fact hardly anything, but isn't there some young Spaniard that's doing pretty hot?

Hulkenberg is the current Williams test driver and a former A1GP champ, I'd be surprised if he didnt make it onto the grid in the next couple of years. Romain Grosjean is the top driver in GP2 this year at the moment and will probably get Piquet's seat next year, definitely a good driver.

Unfortunetly the DTM seems to be a good holding ground for young brits with lots of talent but no money to move on, there's Paffet, Paul Di Resta, Jamie Green and Oliver Jarvis and all of them woul/can do very well in F1.

Ralf Schumacher has moved to DTM too, I gather.  Interesting move.

Yep, Hülkenberg and Paffett are both test drivers for F1 but also still race separately.

However, some drivers in the past have come up through the ranks and not done that well.  Like Piquet, Jr., Bourdais (although put him in a better car and we may see what he's like) and a few others.

Also, what's Pantano like (actually, I just looked him up again and forgot he was in F1 and was not especially great, despite his good record in GP2)?

Oh and Bruno Senna may also get a seat... that's if F1 doesn't have a split.

And I think Piquet, Jr. may not even last the season, unless he picks up... meaning Grosjean may get a seat earlier than expected.

Also don't forget Kobayashi is also a test driver for Toyota.

I also think Fisichella may go at the end of the season.  He's been around for in F1 for ages now and hasn't really done much.

Yea, I've been wondering where Bruno Senna is!

And must agree with Giancarlo.....he had some good years with Renault but he is just done now.

So Max Moseley is standing down in October and the F1 issue is apparently sorted again.

Good news.

Indeed he is, he's in his second year there and is just as much a waste of space in the Mercedes now as he was in the Toyota in his last year of F1. Mercedes should never have given him an 09 spec car, Jamie Green would have done so much better with that equipment

I dont think Paffet is a test driver anymore, since in season testing is now banned and McLaren already have Pedro de la Rosa, theres no need to keep Paffet on. Still, he's winning races in DTM this year and would be a good bet to get a seat with Manor Grand Prix for next year.

Piquet is definetely underperforming but he's not helped by a poor Renault.Bourdais' problem is that he likes an understeery car, and the Toro Rosso is oversteery by nature. He's still outracing Buemi though.

Pantano is quick but nothing special, though with 3 new teams on the grid for next year he has a good shot at a seat.

Quote

Same as Pantano, though he would be more deserving of an F1 place IMO. He's currently racing the French ORECA AIM cars in the Le Mans Series, and is proving very quick there a well.

Piquet will probably last the year, but thats it. Kobayashi won the GP2 Asia series this winter but hasnt done too well in the main series. He is Toyota backed though. Fisichella is aparantly considering retirment at the end of the year.
