hmmm.... well boring is a epitaph that will never be attached to Tull.  Edge to Tull in my eyes for Thick as a Brick alone.  Throw in Passion Play and others.  Tull all the way.

I'm thinking that the YES fans are voting here to fell GENESIS. Because JT is a joke. This band have only 2 good albuns (Aqualung & TAAB). The rest is ...

u havent heard much tull if u think aqualung is among the best 2 albums lol. The full sessions of heavy horses, stormwatch and dotcom are all better than the original Aqualung album. The warchild outtakes, Songs from the wood, A are as good as the original Aqualung album. The full Benefit, Broadsword, Catfish sessions are as good as the original Aqualung album. When I say full session, I don't mean an original album such as Heavy Horses. I mean the original album plus another 6 or 7 songs included which are among the best songs from the whole session. I think you need to do some research Herbie

Actually, JT's material and shows were nor precisely a world apart from comedy: Monty Python was an obvious visual reference for both bands on stage in the early 70s. Well, JT bore that MP influence for even longer.

Oh, by the way, I voted for JT since their material has been more consistent in terms of progressive interest and musical quality.

Well, I sometimes like Jethro Tull, but for me they are nothing stunning, so my vote goes to genesis!

Tull.  Definately Tull.  Genesis tends to get old sort of fast.

It is very interesting to notice that when the BIG 6 are listed together (see another topic), Genesis has 3 times more votes than Jethro Tull.

But when Genesis and Tull are face-to-face, Tull wins. The reasons may be:

  1. Tull fans prefer to vote when their favorite band is only in a poll face-to-face, not liking to vote in a poll where there is more than 2 options.
  2. The majority of fans of bands like Yes, ELP, KC, Floyd prefer Tull instead of Genesis.
  3. Another reason I did not get into.

Tull

In fact, Genesis used to be my favourite band until I discovered Jethro Tull.  I have never been disappointed in a Tull Album.  This is taking the whole of both their long careers into consideration.

GENESIS

They are the ultimate prog rock band for me. Every thing they done between 1970 and 1980 was brilliant IMO. No other bands music has touched me so profoundly, with the possible exception of Rush, but they are not a 'pure' prog band.

I do like Tull as well. TAAB, and Songs from the Wood are my top Tull albums, but they aint a patch on Gabriel or Collin's Genesis..

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Jethro Tull was one of the most popular bands of the 1970s.  I remember the Aqualung album being so over-played.  It was played as much as Dark Side of the Moon. Jethro Tull does have the distinction of being the only prog band to release an album every year throughout the classic British prog rock period. 1968-1980.  Every album is at least 'good' and has a hit song on it. (Maybe not something that you would hear on the radio, but something that would end up on a greatest hits collection.) Ian Anderson still ato put out an album every other year after that;  it's pretty impressive.
