An all Italian day:

Agora – Live in Montreux (1975)
Franco Battiato – Fetus (1972)
Jumbo – DNA (1972)

Arturo Stalteri – From Ajanta to Lhasa (1979/2020) (a superb archival release from the Pierrot Lunaire keyboardist)

Le Orme – Elementi (2001) (compliments their classic Seventies albums beautifully, just sublime)

I love Kebnekaise lll. I think of it as a companion album to ll tbh. They could very well have made a terrific double methinks.
Yes, indeed! He played the CD in his car, but without the bass and stereo separation it was a huge sonic mess, that's why I listened to it again at home LOL
I don't think I heard of Procession and Etna, I'll investigate Thumbs Up
Cool, I very much like Kebnekaise II, I'll listen to it as well!

I don't remember if I listened to it, but I listened to Florian a few times recently. It's such a lovely album.

Very cool Italian picks there Michael. It’s been ages since I span the Jumbo albums. Those are indeed some of the most interesting “blues music” coming out of Italy from around that time. Sensation’s Fix being another
As a devout Battiato fan seeing anyone of his early albums in here warms my heart. Fetus is a special release to me.

Samuel: I am rather used to introducing friends to music via their car stereos. I know exactly how that goes…especially for the more rough productions
Some times though it can get quite magical. I remember driving through an extremely wet and rainy Copenhagen with Catapilla Rising blasting through the speakers…and the album had honestly never sounded so amazing. My buddy went ahead and bought the album afterwards.

Btw I am visiting Rome for my 40th birthday in a couple of weeks and plan on scouring the city for RPI..preferably on cd.

Yesterday:
Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up Here
Björk - Vespertine
Ochre - A Midsummer’s Night Dream
Squid - Bright Green Field
Darkside - Psychic
King Crimson - Discipline
Archimedes Badkar - Tre
Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures
Mike Oldfield - Incantations

Lake | Lake — pop/prog from 70s Germany I just discovered. Not sure about them yet but I bought 3 albums.

Jesu | Jesu — Justin K Broadrick’s finest mope/drone/doom project’s album (ok, what would YOU call this?)

Can | Out of Reach — Dismissed by the band as a mistake but thankfully still in print. I like it now and then, and like Rosko’s vocal numbers too. Reebop’s “Like Inobe God” is pushing it, but I won’t shut it off.

Boredoms | Chocolate Synthesizer — this era of Boredoms is fairly nuts. Playing it during work hours wasn’t ideal. But I love this group anyway.

The Dead C | Trouble — drone/noise album from a few years ago. Got this album when it came out, and got the somewhat ridiculous “fan pack” which included a t-shirt (which I still wear often), a Sharpie Pen, and a coffee mug (which I use to hold my Sharpie Pens)

Spooky Tooth & Pierre Henry | Ceremony — what a weird idea. Pretty wild (and long) rock/soul/blues things from the Tooth, plastered with electronic noise on top by Pierre Henry (a serious composer). Not sure it works but it’s a hell of a conversation piece.

Lift | Caverns of Your Brain — Syn-Phonic’s first release! Bought it when my friend and I first discovered all this previously unheard prog music back in ‘91. Good album! Sounds like early (Banks era) Yes.

Nektar | Down to Earth — damn what a fun album. Rockin and sometimes funky, but conceptually tight and instrumentally interesting all the way thru. Is it their best? Not sure. Haven’t heard the first 2 in decades.

Frank Zappa | The Lumpy Money Project/Object (box set). Heard the 1984 remixes of both “Gravy” (prev unreleased) and “Money” (which pissed me off immensely at first but now is a curious alternate version).

Michael Hoenig | Departure from the Northern Wasteland — my go-to album, period. Usually played when I’m at my lowest. It brings me back out of the doldrums without fail, or at least makes me feel better about being in the doldrums. Usually the latter, honestly. Can a single album really change you from being depressed to being happy? Not sure it can, in my case at least.

Weather Report | s/t
Weather Report | I Sing the Body Electric
Sigur Ros | Valtari
Sparks | Propaganda
Mahavishnu Orchestra | The Inner Mounting Flame
Dire Straits | Love Over Gold

Genesis | Archive 1967-75 (disc 4) — this is the reeeal early stuff, mostly unreleased. They were quite good even back then.
Weezer | Weezer (Blue Album) - Trying again to see if I like them. I kind of do. Can I like them without thinking this album is the greatest album of all time? I think I can.

Genesis | Calling all Stations — on a whim. I’ve warmed up to this slightly in recent years, though sonically it has nothing to do with anything I’ve ever liked about any prior edition of Genesis. At one point I upgraded it to “sounds like a very mediocre Porcupine Tree album might sound”, but this latest (full) listen has me downgrading it from there. Not bad background music, anyway. God, I used to hate this thing so much though. I bought it upon release but didn’t know that Phil wasn’t going to be on it. Imagine my shock.

Lou Reed | s/t — featuring Rick and Steve from Yes! I think I could hear Steve play a solo on “Ride into the Sun” because there’s no way Lou played that. Good underrated album though.

Yeah, I adore that one too, Sam. Might have to give it a fresh spin again soon

Just a few for me the last two days:

Greg Lake – s/t (1981)
Fire – The Magic Shoemaker (1970)
Mike Batt & Friends – Tarot Suite (1979)
Blakulla – s/t (1975)
Mike Oldfield – Tr3s Lunas (2002)

Today’s spins:

Brigg – s/t (1973) (got an LP reissue of an obscure US psych/folk/rocker from a one-and-done young band...a little bit poppy, a little bit folky, some light Beatles influences here and there…a nice and easy spin, but perhaps not a truly lost `classic'...although I warm to it more with every spin - )

Costa Blanca – Viaje a Prantia (1977) (also picked up a reissue a few months back of a Spanish prog-jazz rarity that reminds a little of Italian fusioners Perigeo. Damn good in several parts, although I could do without the unaccompanied drum solo that feels like it goes for about ten minutes smack-bang in the middle! )

Rialzu – s/t (1978) (a beautiful French Zeuhl obscurity with lots of folk and male/female choral touches)

It’s a little funny and just as heartwarming to see your love for that Michael Hoenig album, Steve. I do get it though - I have a bunch of similar offerings that truly help my overall mood. Lucio Battisti’s Anima Latina being one and from the electronic quarters I’d say Klaus Schulze’s X.
I can’t remember the last time I heard the last Genesis album. I’m a little afraid to do so.

Birdy Michael: those are some under the radar albums you’re pulling out of your hat!…and that’s saying something coming from me I know the Rialzu and Blackulla ones…that’s about it!

Me yesterday:
Pond - 9
Squid - Bright Green Field
Trentemøller - Obverse
Parliament - Mothership Connection
Black Country, New Road - For The First Time
Necromonkey - A Glimpse Of Possible Endings
Frank Zappa - Sleep Dirt

@David, I still haven’t gotten that Squid album yet, but I will eventually.
Been digging BC,NR for about a year now. They seem a pretty happy and creative bunch of kids (felt similarly about Bent Knee at first). So it was a bit of a sad disappointment to learn that the lead singer had to leave the group after recording the album due to mental health issues. Hope he gets better and maybe rejoins the band if he’s ready.
Re: Calling all Stations, just remember, there are less enjoyable ways to spend an hour of your life, such as eye surgery.

Spent the day in a bit of a fog, with tree pollen in the air at insanely dangerous levels just like every Spring in Atlanta. Better than smog I guess. But here’s what played recently:

Spirit | Son of Spirit
Spirit | Farther Along - 2 beautiful Spirit albums on one CD. I used to only like the original band albums (up to Sardonicus) but these late 70s albums go down soooo nice.
Can | Flow Motion - so much reggae on this thing. Not complaining
Sebadoh | Rocking the Forest EP - maybe their tightest individual release. Certainly the punkiest
Stephen Malkmus | s/t
Tommy James & the Shondells | Crimson & Clover
Jimmie Vaughan et al | The Jimmie Vaughan Story (box set, disc 1) (on loan from my neighbor friend. The Fab T-birds have always been cool in my book)
Vangelis | The Dragon / Hypothesis - just bought, first listen. I’ll be playing this a lot, I think. Good abstract groove jam music

Black Country, New Road is a pretty new discovery for me, so it saddens me to hear about the singer They remind me a little of Black Midi in that they seem to have channeled that early 80s experimental rock into a pretty unique sound.

Yesterday:
Genesis - The Lamb (no latter day Genesis here although the description ‘better than eye surgery’ surely won me over big time
Squid - Bright Green Field (again and again and again. Love this stuff. Reminds me of a modern day Wire)
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Cream - Fresh Cream
Peter Green - The End Of The Game
The Comet Is Coming - The Afterlife
XTC - English Settlement

A little old, a little new today:

Dedalus – s/t (1973) – Don’t play this Italian fusion stunner nearly enough.
M.Efekt – Svitanie (1977) – such an underrated minor symphonic classic

Michael Bruckner/Volker Lankow/Bridge to Imla – Ambient Chapel: Live at Schlosskirche Rumpenheim 2018 (2022) – A gorgeous and atmospheric ambient release.

Michael Bruckner – Hymns to the Dawn (2021) – as above. MB is always an intelligent and class act. It’s staggering that his superior electronic releases keep up such an incredible high standard.

Just call me butter, because I’m on a roll

Tommy James & the Shondells | Cellophane Symphony —bubblegum psych ! Want to hear a 9 minute instrumental from the guy who wrote Mony Mony? Love this guy.

Cluster | Konzerte 1971/77 — live excerpts from 2 eras of the band

Nick Drake | Pink Moon — long, long time since I heard this. Something magical about this guy.

Porcupine Tree | On the Sunday of Life — interesting collection of possible directions SW might have taken.

Belle & Sebastian | Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant — never though much of this one, gave it a fresh listen, still not too thrilled with it. A few great tracks, but not among their better albums.

Lindsey Buckingham | Law and Order — the Mac guy, in between Tusk and Mirage. Some really nice songs on here, reminiscent of Brian Wilson.

Klaus Schulze | X — masterpiece.

Edgar Froese | Solo (1974-1983) The Virgin Years (box set, disc 1) — Aqua in particular. Edgar was a genius with this stuff.

Vangelis | Heaven & Hell — symphonic/operatic prog. Jon Anderson guests. Quite a heavy work.

Godley & Crème | Birds of Prey — art rock with big plans but falls a bit short of their prior work

Steve Hackett | Spectral Mornings - classic!

Sparks | Angst in my Pants - my newest Sparks album, and it’s so fun and easy to listen to. Other albums may be better, but they’re much denser too.
