I feel the same. This is possibly my least fav. release of theirs yet. I feel that they used the best of their recent ideas on Vic Chesnutt's album. (which would be even better without his involvement imo) I suggest sampling this new album before purchasing it to everyone, (even the most die hard ASMZ fans) it's not like anything they've done so far.

So, anyways... Neil on Impression has become my latest addiction...  so beautiful

I can't wait to have them here in PA!  The complexity of their music plus their bombastic compositions will flip prog fan's head around.... That is... if they ever get to listen to them...

Speaking of adding bands, I believe there is an intention to add This Will Destroy You. Will it happen soon. Excellent band.

^^^ The only reason the band isn't added is because of the complete lack of biography. If you happen to see one, please let me know.

How much of a bio is really needed beyond they were formed in '05, they're from Texas, they released an EP, and who's in the band?

For a band that young it seems pretty complete to me.

is there a reason why "The Six Parts Seven" aren't in the archives?  or is that on the things to do list...

Hi GoldenSpiral, nice tunes. I just found myself listening to your myspace samples 4 times in a row Smile  Keep rockin'

I agree, after so many listenings i'm overwhelmed every time by their creativity. Their music also make a great argument of undeniable substance to those that would like to label post rock as "a pretentious mess of distortion & delay pedals"

I really dig those folks. I've never checked if they where in the archives because i always assumed they where.

I like the way this thread moves so quickly. =)

Can I ask for a few recommendations concerning bands who either do not use guitar, or down-play it's involvement in the music?

Awesome Lappy.

Try some God is an astronaught, Mono is guitar driven, but the guitar is definatley not treated as a lead instrument, Sigur ros, but I'm sure you've already checked them out. Johnnytwent three, and probably GY!BE, same situation as sigur ros though.

My friends here will help you more with that.

I'll be glad to help you out on some recommendations.

BELL ORCHESTRE is band that's more chamber than rock. They only use guitar in one song on their debut. The music's mostly upbeat and very organic (just like the look of the cover). I think you'll like them. They're not one of those stereotypical post-rock bands.

MAGYAR POSSE is another band that barely uses the guitar, at least on their 2006 album which is, in my opinion, they're best effort to date. If anything the album is more dominated by keyboards and strings and with a strong driving rhythm in their songs. Very cinematic. One of my favorite Post-Rock albums.

WORLD'S END GIRLFRIEND has a more electronic feel than any of the bands in the genre. His albums are more dominated by glitch and electronica, but he uses a nice variety of instruments and none is more dominant than the other. The music's spontaneous and rarely linear. The Lie Lay Land would be the album that I'd recommend.

Those are some good bands too start. The other bands downplay a lot (Dirty Three) or use more electronica (The American Dollar, A Lily). CUE , SET FIRE TO FLAMES , TUNA LAGUNA and DO MAKE SAY THINK (but I know you already know of them. If not then prioritize this one as well) would be good recommendations as well, but I think the first 3 should be priority.

Hope you like them.Smile

^ same with me. "The Lie Lay Land" is a solid 4-star effort, IMHO. A bit avant in the beginning and too electronic in the middle, but extremely good nonetheless

Thanks you two. I know Bell Orchestre, DMST and World's End Girlfriend but I haven't tried Magyar Posse yet and I hadn't even heard of Johnnytwentythree until this week. So, those are good recommendations. =)

Of course I know GY!BE, and in fact I asked the question because I realised that I preferred the rest of their work to "Lift Your Skinny Fists..."
