I picked up a copy of The Bottom Half to try and make myself feel better after getting treated to a 10% pay cut after 10 years. I'll let y'all know if it works...

give it time. took a couple of listens to fully appreciate it. I do think it's better than Safety In Numbers, which is funny because TB1/2 songs are from the SIN sessions. |

Heh heh heh, Safety In Numbers is currently my fav second to Mantis. The Bottom Half has yet to be listened to enough to sink in, currently listening to the bonus disc.

this is a great intro to the band live. However, if you really want to see what the band can do (and see how proggy and jazz-rock they can be) then check out this show from 2005 http://www.archive.org/details/um2005-02-26.matrix.flac16 this one showcases their proggier side a lot, especially since it contains "live-only" songs, some of which are their most proggy songs, and a lot of jazz-fusion. The second set in particular (starts with Bridgeless) is amazing. Bridgeless, The Fuzzy Dutchmen, Push the Pig, Much Obliged, and The Triple Wide are all not on any albums but are some of their best songs. Notice that encore - JaJunk > Thunderstruck (AC/DC) > JaJunk > It's About That Time (M. Davis/J. Zawinul) > JaJunk excellent sound quality, i wouldnt be surprised if this one were released as an official live album Edited by darkshade - April 22 2009 at 01:32 |

Before they got big enough to sell recordings of all their shows, they used to allow audience patches into their soundguy's recording rig. 2-26-05 dates from the final days of that period. Also, I was there. You're right: great show. They always throw down in Boulder. /lurkmode on |

I'm listening to Jimmy Stewart 2007 and it's great stuff....multiple versions of the same song which sound nothing like each other. Not exactly proggy but phenomenal music, and really captures the feel of being there.
There's a massive amount of music though so my review may take a little time.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Grooving on the Summer Sampler freebie which I spotted on a cluttered checkout counter at a local package store. I see they'll be doing an outdoor show at a club in Atlanta 8/14/10. I missed the band on their last pass through this town. Need to rectify that in August. Hopefully the weather will be kind.
