Smile

Ever considered trying out alternative grading for the tracks in the top 5? The first song gets 6 points while the fifth one gets 1, but for both to be in somebody's top 5, they must both be of comparable levels of noteworthiness, and one isn't six times as good as the other.

That'd be a lot of numbers to add up, though... Keep it up, love lists!

^ I chose that particular Top 5 numbering system because all of the points divide neatly into 12. The same goes for my Top 7 lists where all of the points divide into 24, and for a Top 10 list, all of the points divide into the number 60. Smile

Not surprisingly, it gives me a bit of a headache adding up the points for my Top 10 lists. Wink

Admittedly my Interest in Deep Purple is pretty much limited to Mark I and Mark II - I lost interest after Gillan & Glover and then Blackmore departed for the first time.

Yeah, Stormbringer is a criminally underrated song these days. I'm pretty surprised, though, that no one besides me brought up Hush, which, albeit a cover, is one of their most beautiful early songs. An outstanding hippy anthem from '68 that radiates a cozy vibe, featuring Rod Evans' soothing voice, while the Hammond organ solo is top-notch; Jon Lord really showcased his skills on this iconic instrument!

Video is not working for me, I don't know what you posted, not Hush I hope, it's such a famous song, it's rather pointless, no offense.

I think Stormbringer has always been underrated or overlooked, overshadowed by the more popular Burn. Also a lot of people ignore MKIII because there is no Ian Gillan. Nevertheless the Coverdale+Hughes combination had plenty to offer, proving Gillan was not irreplaceable (IMO).

The band also did some good albums with Steve Morse on guitar which are often overlooked.

No, no problem. This is indeed the wrong thread for posting a YT video featuring Hush; actually, I should have posted it in the "Post an obscure track" thread because apparently it somehow became obscure as no one but me mentioned it, even though Hush is a superb song from 1968!

Stormbringer, the song, wasn't underrated at the time when Deep Purple had still been a current band. On the contrary, it was one of the concert triggers.

You are probably right, surely MKIII & IV has its fans (I've always liked that era), but many people would not listen to DP unless Gillan or Blackmore is in the line-up. If you ask me, they're missing out... Smile
