I am a BIG fan of Marillion, IQ, Arena and Camel.
Take a listen to Arena's "Songs From the Lion's Cage". While agree that it tends to be heavier, the band's style and album production are reminiscent of older Marillion. What? Did I forget to mention that the lead singer sounds almost IDENTICAL to Fish?!
Nine Stones Close. Mark Atkinson's vocals are imho strongly reminiscent of Steve Hogarth. And for what it's worth, I prefer One Eye on the Sunrise above Sounds That Can't Be Made (but both albums are good).

Hmmmmm.......
That's like saying - "I like Oasis and couldn't be more disappointed with The Beatles"
Whether you think Marillion were influenced by Genesis or not, they were certainly a big blue-print for the fledgling Marillion. I think you must have just decided that you weren't going to like Genesis regardless but suggest that you give them another go because you are plainly missing out on some of the most beautiful music created within a genre that you enjoy.

Ehy no....Marillion are not unique....They were the clones of Genesis...with better instruments and less armonies
As much as I like Fish-era Marillion, I beg to differ. Steve Rothery is very good, but Steve Hackett is unique; Mark Kelly is very good, but Tony Banks is better; Pete Trewavas is very good...have I made my point?
they have been known to cover Marillion in the past
Wow excellent!!! They don't sound like Marillion, but i love this band, I can't describe their sound but it's really outstanding!!!!! The sound is modern and fresh, the production top notch!!!
I don't hear any Marillion influence, maybe the way to sound some keybords solo or riff, but the rest it's very original!!!
Thx so much you're the man!!! Im hearing all the album right now!!!

If I had to name just a single record (familiar to my limited scope) most reminiscent of Fish-era Marillion, I could opt for Pendragon's Masquerade overture (was it recorded in 1996?).
But just today I encountered a new name for me: Sylvan from Germany, and I think they occasionally sound somewhat like Misplaced childhood's most atmospheric and bombastic moments - but that was just my first impression. Anyway. most promising it sounded: you can try for example songs like Timeless traces or The colors changed.

Ehy Sylvan...I listen something...but I don't like their prog metal approach of the songs. Could u suggest me some stuff, without prog metal tendencies.
