Thanks Flowerchild, I'll head out and pick up that record.  I was blown away by Living Sin, so I'm looking forward to hearing more of them.

I heard that things went a little awry for them after Brain Salad Surgery.  Would you agree?

Yes, I would, as with most bands during that period. I suggest you wait with Works I and II, thought IMO, they are good records...Love beach and the reunion-stuff is for completionists, though. But u should know that the song Living sin is NOT very significant for the rest of their catalog, IMO.

They've done some great things (i think the first album is their best) and also something really horrible (works-love beach).

Anyway in my opinion they're very very far to being the greatest prog band.

For every truth even the contrary is true...

Please do! The album is superb. On of my top 5 favorite albums. It never bores me. Matter of fact, listened to it yesterday, and was blown away once again.

Regarding "Living Sin", what album is it from?

It's from their fourth album "Trilogy". U can easily start with that one as well, perhaps it's best, cause u love that song, then u get the most positive start

Thanks again.  I'll see what the local record store has and decide then.

And, of course, this would be my rating of EmersonLake&Palmer's albums.

  1. Tarkus
  2. Trilogy
  3. Brain Salad Surgery
  4. ELP
  5. Live at the Royal Albert Hall
  6. Picture at an Exibition
  7. Welcome back...

Prog forever!

[RANT] ELP have produced too much rubbish to really be considered the "greatest". But God, I'm so sick of these discussions. How would you feel if I started making threads claiming Gentle Giant were the greatest band of all time every other day? I might think that they are but that's JUST MY OPINION. These discussions are pointless. Pointless and irritating. Why can't you all take your heads out of the sand and talk about some DIFFERENT BANDS, eh?

Good God, there are 1,607 groups listed in the Archives, countless more over at GEPR and yet, despite this half of you seem incapable of discussion more than about FIVE of them. It's pathetic and infuriating, especially when it's as silly as this. "I think this band's the bestest." "Yes, it is." "No it isn't." "Yes it is." "No it isn't."

And people wonder why prog never gets represented well in the media...[/RANT]

Just a suggestion then:

There are about 30 threads on this first page... only one has the title "ELP"... if you don't like them or you don't want to read anymore about them.... then just skip the thread and go to one of those others that discusses the "DIFFERENT BANDS"..you seem to want to discuss... but don't!!!

Why don't you start your own GG thread instead of complaining about it... then we can all come and trash you!

WOW... you need to go back to Clown College...

ELP are:

  • The essence of talent
  • The joy of music
  • The voice of fantasy
  • The compositions of beauty
  • The dreams of lovers
  • The sounds of echoes
  • The movement of time
  • The chords of shadows
  • The emotions of sinners
  • The winds of daydreams
  • The cries of lost loves
  • The beginning and the end....of my heart!
