Tony, I have to wonder about having such a large list with only 5 days in the forum !
Well, you might have got in some weeks before starting posting but still .... very impressive !
I found this site a few month ago and the more I got in the more I liked it. I think that downloading an mp3 is not an answear to your question so I'll mention only 3 that I actually purchased after reading of and listening to on PA.
1. the soft machine
2. gentle giant
3. the nice
4. caravan
I must also say that I realised I must get into itallian prog and start with PFM after reading so many of you on that issue.

King Crimson, Camel, Caravan, ELP, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Opeth, Genesis.
The only real prog I knew before I found PA was Rush, Floyd and Yes.

I knew about genesis, yes, king crimson, ELP, focus, jethro tull, moody blues, dream theater, tool, opeth, pink floyd, Rush, Gentle Giant, and a few others that escape me before visiting this site.
This site introduced me to
TMV, Porcupine Tree, the strawbs, GYBE, Camel, Caravan, Anglagard, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, and many MANY other bands, it really opened my eyes to what the genre "prog" really was.

PA made me check a lot of bands I already knew about, but never took the time to really explore more deeply. I had some albums, or new some songs by these bands, but never looked further than what I had until a year ago.
Kansas Camel King Crimson Renaissance VDGG Uriah Heep
and some more.
Completely new discoversies Riverside Gong Magma

Uh....Yes, Gentle Giant, VDGG, ELP, King Crimson, Spock's Beard, The Mars Volta, Steve Hackett. Actually pretty much everything but Radiohead, Rush, Pink Floyd, Kansas, Styx, and Phil Collins-era Genesis.

I was pretty familiar with British prog, and to a lesser extent US before joining, but the Archives have opened my eyes to the many bands from other countries who make great prog.
Italy, Poland, Sweden, and Canada are four which come to mind straight away.
