Until you suggest a well-known band with many elements of  prog in their music for the prog related category.   All of a sudden a bunch of people who should know better show up to tell you that they aren't prog.   Wink

Whatever you say, but the same name says it all.
Prog Related = Related to Prog= Drawer where you can put anything.
But that has been  discussed before, with no agreement, and it wasn't my intention to start again.
I humbly apologise, really.

The Who - "Won't Get Fooled Again"
Wilco - "Spiders (Kidsmoke)"
Yes - "Starship Trooper"
Neil Young - "Cortez the Killer"
Frank Zappa - "Willie the Pimp"

Some comments -
I'm not familiar with some of the bands/songs on the list, but to the Bolded entries, I ask: WHY?!?!?!Confused

Surprises: that KC's isn't "21st Century Schizoid Man;"
that Zeppelin's isn't "Stairway To Heaven;"

that Neil Young's IS "Cortez The Killer;" (Down By The River?)
Kraftwek's IS "Autobahn;" (Why bother?)
Yes's IS "Starship Trooper" (Something from CTTE?)

As it's a list in a mainstream pop/rock magazine, I have to agree. I'm not going to lose any sleep over the percentage of prog tracks included, or squabble about the choice (yes I am, it should be Halleluwah, Yoo Doo Right or Mother Sky, not Bel Air! Wink).

Remember, there's more out there than prog and Rolling Stone is definitely not on "our side". Complaining about the amount of non-prog tracks in the list is like a vegetarian going into a butcher's shop and complaining about how many sausages there are.

"The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar.... Now, that's my idea of a good time."

Bel Air is a fabulous piece of music...  maybe not a 'out there' as you might want... but it has a beauty that something to behold...

It's Rolling Stone, what do you expect. They just pick what's most obvious. The only reason they put Can on their is too appeal to the experimental rock loving hipsters that probably won't read their magazine until one of their friends is like "dude, that weird band Can you like was mentioned in Rolling Stone!"

I don't whats terrible about that list. There are plenty of lesser known, progressive guitar on that list. Sure there are a lot of lame ones but you have to realize that Rolling Stone's audience is all music fans in general and they have to satisfy everyone. That's why it's pointless to complain about them.

Michael... it's the thought process of the list.....  it is quite obvious some thought went into that epic list... as opposed to that guitarist list...

any list.... sh*t... anyone who knows a damn thing about music... that would have White and Cobain in the top 20.... and guitarist like Randy Rhodes and  yes... EDDIE VAN HALEN ... 70 and up...

is simply a sh*t list....  and reinforced the notion that RS is about pushing trends.. and hot names...

White and Cobain were guitarist that set trends and changed the enviorment of the music industry. Eddie Van Halen, though, i'm not a fan, does deserve to be up their since he did that as much as White and Cobain. And I don't see anything special about Randy Rhodes.
