I voted Nirvana - Endless Nameless just to be a jerk and anger some narrow-minded people
but then I realzied it's not an instrumental at all, now I feel stupid

From this list, I'd pick "Oxygene".
And if I put them in order, "Moby Dick" would come way, way down at the bottom.............

"Death Warmed Up" by High Tide from their first album "Sea Shanties". A nine-minute tour-de-force with a real wild battle between electric guitar and electric violin during the last three minutes.

I voted for Oldfield's Tubular Bells, but I think that you forget some great instrumental classics like ICE (Camel), LARKS' TONGUES IN ASPIC (King Crimson), MARS POETICA (Solaris), THE BARBARIAN (EL&P), AMAROK (Oldfield)...

Without a doubt, the best prog metal instrumental is Pagan's Mind - Back to the Magic of Childhood Pts. 1 & 2. This song is the perfect mix of hard riffing, soft melodic passages, and plenty of chops on every instrument. Both parts together are 12 minutes long, but it never ever gets old.
A strong 2nd place goes to Dream Theater for Stream of Conciousness.
