Out of those, I would choose Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, because that guy is a genius, playing almost all the instruments on his albums and maikng it sound like it came from heaven isn't something that everyone can achieve. My favorite instrumental goes to the Who with their incredible Sparks instrumental. Progressive Wise, it goes to LTE with 3 minute warning. Rush also has incredible intrumentals, as does DT, ELP, and the rest of them for that matter. -------------

Hmm, pretty dicey selections to choose from... Even as a diehard Floyd fan, I still chose 'Red' over 'Interstellar Overdrive' .My favourite instrumental would have to be: Cluster One (naturally). Interesting piece of trivia: Pink Floyd won a grammy for <Best Instrumental> in 1994 for their song 'Marooned' off of The Division Bell. And no, they were not on hand to receive the award in person. ------------- Marmalade...I like marmalade. |

Red Queen... is one of my favourite albums as is Midnight Mushrumps. I was thinking of adding a couple of Gryphon tracks to my instrumentals list as well as some Amazing Blondel but have yet to decide. ATM I'm trying to decide which Eno tracks to include. Talk about 'killing your babies.' Too many choices and I haven't enough brain cells.  -------------

Without a doubt, the best prog metal instrumental is Pagan's Mind - Back to the Magic of Childhood Pts. 1 & 2. This song is the perfect mix of hard riffing, soft melodic passages, and plenty of chops on every instrument. Both parts together are 12 minutes long, but it never ever gets old. A strong 2nd place goes to Dream Theater for Stream of Conciousness.
