I have now listen to 10,000 Days 11 times. I still have the same feeling.
The new Album just doesn't do anything for me. I still come to the same conclusion it sounds like a compilation of stolen bit's and pieces from all their other Albums. They just didn't put enough time into the Album. The LP sounds rushed, (get it out Tool's name will sell the Album) is the impression I get from this Album.
Don't lash back that it took five years for a new LP. Maynard was also involved with APC in the last Five Years.

Zitro I have just read your review. Thanks for the most positive review of this album I've read so far.I too was dissapointed that a lot of people dont seem to get this one.It is my favourite and Justin's bass playing is outstanding. It was interesting to see Maynard and Danny on Oz tv over the weekend hosting a music video show. They're chosen video's were showcasing the guy,s biggest music influences. It was great to see King Crimson and Peter Gabriel amongst them. |
You really think Justin's that good on it, huh? While he does have some nice grooves, I swear everytime I listen to the album I hear/think something different. Honestly though I think Adam's tones and overall sounds are the best I've heard come out of him.
Last time through I noticed a terrible problem with the bottom end on the album: it's terribly, terribly muddy and indistinct (when he's not doing those loopy delay-esque effects and whatever tone he has on the title track) tone-wise and perhaps Danny's kick drum makes matters even worse. His normal no-effects tone actually reminds me quite a bit of Doug Pinnick's of King's X who absolutely does nothing for me.

I would have to agree regards Adam.
I have 2 HiFi's in my house 1 for music and the other a surround sound for movies. When I play this album on the cheaper Pioneer surround setup(with sub on but no rears) I got that muddy bottom end and did not like the sound at all. When I play it on my much cleaner sounding Mission hifi the bass comes alive without the muddiness you talk about.Perhaps this cd needs a good system to get the most out of it sonically. You can get the same effect with headphones of course which often give a cleaner aural soundscape than with speakers in a poor accoustic atmosphere. Hope that makes sense!
ps I cant wait to hear this album live.It will kick!!!
