Styx and Asia!  I like the following Asia/Styx songs a lot:

Sole Survivor
Heat Of The Moment
Here comes The Feeling

Renegade
Blue Collar Man
Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)
Mr. Roboto

I saw Styx in concert last summer and they put on a really memorable show.  Maybe not entirely prog, compared to Amon Duul II or Can or Van der Graaf Generator, but definitely more prog than a lot of their competition in the 80s.

I like A momentary lapse of reason. It's not great, but still enjoyable. And the song Abacab, too (not the whole album, though)

It puzzles me to learn that Counterparts is low rated...to me it's one of the best Rush albums!

Anyway, let's move on to the most critical items...

  • Pink Floyd - I definitely like A Momentary Lapse of Reason and (even more) The Division Bell...I prefer them to The Final Cut (which is anyway a very good album, except for the last song)
  • Genesis - I like all their production, from the epic glory days throughout the so-called POP-sellout! Moreover, I really like Calling all stations (the title track, Uncertain Weather and The Dividing Line are gorgeous...and Ray Wilson has a beautiful voice)
  • Yes - I like Trevor Rabin as a singer, as a player and also as a songwriter, and IMHO his contribution to Yes was great! Last but not least (and I already said it many times): I really dig Open your eyes!!!

  • Asia - what's so wrong with them?

As a matter of fact you're right, since Trevor Horn does not possess such a pleasant voice...

boy, you truly qualify as an outcast now... but i'm with
you, since i have suprisingly little problems with that
album, too. "new state of mind", "open your eyes" &
"universal garden" are excellent songs and there are
a few more good things to discover, but also a lot of
dross, which is probably in the majority..

BTW the link in my previous post seems not to work
so if you're interested please use the
"search"-function and look for the thread "songs you
hate to love". enjoy!

Rightly so...the title track is the song by Yes that struck me the most since Owner of a lonely heart and Changes as concerns freshness and listenability combined with skill and complexity!

I personally cannot think of anything. It seems like I'm so picky about the albums I buy that if I hear a lot of people say an album crappy then I won't buy it.

Jeez, I LOVE 'Drama' i think it is a very strong album....

I also agree about 'Tormato'...'On the silent wings...' and 'Future times/Rejoice' are great songs!!

I have said it before, but I also like 'Calling all stations'...it did take a while, but 'The dividing line' and 'one mans fool' are very strong Genesis songs..

Just for the record - I don't think "Falling Into Infinity" is considered the worst DT record, I've seen lots and lots of enthusiastic opinions on it, and I love it myself.

I hate Volumen 1 and 2 of Soft Machine. Too overrated IMO.

Probably the only ELP album with no prog on it whatsoever and yet all the music stands up well. Its actually quite an achievment for a major prog band like ELP to make an album like that but few prog fans will agree!
