Cool! I'll have to track that one down.
Radiohead (surely they're prog?)
They have their moments - and to paraphrase John Peel: 'If the tune Paranoid Android isn't prog, I'll eat my hat'.
Ah yes, Mr Peel - the doyen of the prog world... would he like some ketchup with his hat?
However, elsewhere 'avante rock' come again??? and sometime, 'plain boring' would be more apt. Your opinion, which, like certain parts of your anatomy, I'm just not interested in seeing ![](smileys/smiley17.gif)
White Stripes
I've tried, with WS but best I can come up with is 'sloppy electric blues'
I guess the real appeal of WS is the attention to detail paid in the reproduction of the instrument sounds, and the clean stripped-down lines. "There's No Home For You Here" is my favourite of their tracks - I love the moment where the voices harmonise above a simple guitar feedback. Maybe I'm just wierd...

Sorry, Dick, but I just hate it when someone drops in on a thread about people's favourite music and just says "Actually, I think your favourite music is boring" and leaves it at that - while I respect your opinion in most cases, a subjective little dump like that is plain annoying!

Paco Fox,I agree with you in your Oldfield worship. Although I would rate Tangerine Dream as my favourite music of all time overall,Mike is still the one who's responsible for most of my "chicken skin" moments. I lost him in the 80's though when he commenced his pop wilderness years, and Velvet is quite right,it was with "Earth Moving" that his religious ramblings became obvious, but there were probably traces of it earlier like "In High Places". "Navigator to heaven",indeed. Give me a break! ![](smileys/smiley11.gif) . And "Heaven's Open" is half absolutely awful and half absolutely wonderful. The wonderful part is of course the masterpiece "Music From The Balcony".

Cert
You have to agree that one person's cup of tea/favourite listening isn't going to be another's. So it is inevitable that what one find intellectually stimulating, is boring to another person (remember there is a whole raft of folk out there who would dump the whole of prog into a bin labelled "Boring" - or under some other derrogatory label). I think it is reasonable here for me to say I've found some Radiohead boring - but it was throw away line, in context with what I thought were abbrieviated statements. With time and fuller consideration I wouldn't have used a sloppy term like 'boring' - instead "musically dry and something I can't always get my head around", would be better from my viewpoint.
Now I read what you thought of my "opinion" three times, before I realised you were taking the Michael, and my reply was duly lighthearted (as well as being probably lightheaded). But I was sorely tempted to write that the best info provided here is in the form of opinions - people regularly ask for opinions, e.g. about the best albums of the 90's, psychedelic albums, and get responses in the form of opinions.
As Peter Rideout will now tell you, I'm ancient, so I've heard and read many negative comments about the music I really like - for instance, to those who say "I don't like jazz", I have had three responses;
a) "you'll grew up one day" - which I long dropped
b) "what particular form jazz don't you like then" - which I still use occasionally, to remind those people that they only probably heard trad jazz played badly in a pub
c) "Oh never mind" - life is too short to argue and to explain. Who knows if they might later discover for themselves the errors of their ways. With Radiohead I will persist, because I find their work interesting and innovative. Besides if we all liked the same things and didn't "debate" on occasion, wouldn't life be limited and boring?

In that case, I choose #3 - I agree absolutely and entirely with your response, which I feel is totally valid and a very lucid explanation of the intricacies of the style in question - why anyone should think otherwise is quite beyond me, holding, as I do, a Brownie badge in Jaw-Harp playing.

I hereby fully reject any suggestions which have anything to do with bodily functions and transport.

No - at least I wasn't taught anything as advanced as 4-string ukelele tuning when I was in the Brownies...

New here,......... figured I'd start with somethinge easy. Other than prog?
Italian Soundtracks; Piero Piccioni, Piero Umiliani, Ennio Moriconne etc!
ECM, MPS, Blue Note, Soul Note, Black Saint (Jazz is good....a very difficult genre to categorize) and much, much more. George Duke to Henry Mancini! Miles Davis to Art Blakey! Terje Rypdal to Jean Luc Ponty! I could go on and on.
Bands like The Skids, Magazine, The Pixies, Pain of Salvation, Mr. Bungle, Todd Rundgren, Gino Vanelli, Kyuss, Fu Manchu! I could go on and on.
Got about 2,000 original CDs and 1000 LPs (left over after I sold most of my LPs, when CDs first came out like an idiot). Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Prog, RIO, Jazz/rock, Fusion, Stoner rock, metal, punk......NO RAP!

There is not enough time!
