They're both masterpieces, but A Change of Seasons gets my vote. It's one of my all-time favorite songs.

Both songs are quite good. Both songs are very atmospheric but what dislike about ACOS are the
transitions of the themes so my vote goes to Octavarium.

A Change of Seasons. It feels more like an epic song, with sections that relate to each both musically and lyrically, even as they go through many changes. I do like Octavarium a lot, and it definitely goes through the changes, but the breadth of styles it tries to encompass is too great; it doesn't feel like a cohesive whole. It feels more like a collection of things put together.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I like 'octavarium'...ACOS has never done anything for me, I had their first three albums and then went out and got ACOS the day it was released, sold it almost immediatley....I have never understood what is so good about that song...

Dude.... There are so many good things you can say about Octavarium, but definitely not that it "encompasses so many styles"... ESPECIALLY not when its compared to a piece like ACOS which clearly is more diverse in musical styles.
