Which is the better song in your opinion? Both are very lengthy dream theater master pieces (IMO they are both master pieces).

Dont start talking about which is a better album, I'm talking strictly about the songs themselves, as seperate pieces from their albums..

thanks.

ACOS, no contest. I like Octavarium, but the old song (both Moore and Sherinian's versions) dwarf it to me.

I'd say A Change of Seasons is better aswel but do you guys think that Octavarium is good too?

I dislike the rest of the album (Octavarium) but the track itself is an amazing piece with a great finale aswel. I really dont agree that Octavarium sucks Pafnutij.

I'm completely underwhelmed by the "finale" of Octavarium. I like about 1/3 of the epic (right from after the first part with vocals with the uncalled-for complexity in the chord changes to the end of the ultra complex part).

Both kik butt yet I have 2 go with ocatvarium simply beacause of those 2 verses made up purely of song titles, to me that shows how far DT have progressed since change of seasons.

definetly "a change of seasons". brilliant songwriting and one of petrucci's finest solos. one of my alltime-dt-favourites.

A Change Of Seasons is great but Octavarium transpose you to a travel of feelings and emotions and that is what the music must do.

Octavarium the best Dream Theater song ever.

I got moved to a higher level by a change of seasons  than any other dream theater song has taken me  , Though I like Octavarium I don`t consider its as great.   Change of seasons 9/10   Octavarium 8.5/10

Can't agree more!!!!
Octavarium after around the 13th minute loses itself and it hasn't an impressive ending.
ACOS IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIUL.

At your service ;). I think it's the greatest epic in the entire progmetal scene, in my opinion it's one of the greatest epics in progrock but that's a personal preference.

ACOS for sure.  It just seems more cohesive overall.  The sections flow into each other better and the concept is more precise and consistent.

Now if there was a poll ACOS vs. The Odyssey...hmmm, I don't know how I would vote.  I'd have to flip a coin.

ACOS. Octavarium is great too, but the first five minutes aren't that impressive...

I love the end to Octavarium but a change of seasons is the superior song
for sure IMO.

They're both masterpieces, but A Change of Seasons gets my vote. It's one of my all-time favorite songs.

Both songs are quite good. Both songs are very atmospheric but what dislike about ACOS are the
transitions of the themes so my vote goes to Octavarium.

A Change of Seasons. It feels more like an epic song, with sections that relate to each both musically and lyrically, even as they go through many changes. I do like Octavarium a lot, and it definitely goes through the changes, but the breadth of styles it tries to encompass is too great; it doesn't feel like a cohesive whole. It feels more like a collection of things put together.

ACOS is pure briliance, Octavarium seems like it was written to be a 24 minute long song, especially in the beging

I like 'octavarium'...ACOS has never done anything for me, I had their first three albums and then went out and got ACOS the day it was released, sold it almost immediatley....I have never understood what is so good about that song...

Dude.... There are so many good things you can say about Octavarium, but definitely not that it "encompasses so many styles"... ESPECIALLY not when its compared to a piece like ACOS which clearly is more diverse in musical styles.
